When you've waited 20 years to see ONE playoff win, it isn't unreasonable.

What team went from the cellar to Annual Contender in NFL history?

You mean the guy that was shut down before Flowers went out with injury?

No FS help and no pass rush = Shitty looking CBs.

I like your chances, between the two of us.

The visceral frustration is understandable, but it's fogging the logic of mcaj22 and those who agree with him.

The Dallas Cowboys, off the top of my head.

yes how dare I wish my favorite team, who I thought went all in last season by trading two draft picks for a 30 year old QB to lead us to a winning season and almost a playoff victory try and get over the hump for a playoff win/Super Bowl the following year.

Because they aren't paying a bunch of guys 10+ million or anything to NOT WIN.

Dude, we're supposed to get excited about the future EVERY YEAR at this time.

You can't keep dangling a carrot and never let them take a bite.

I'm anticipating several things here:

1. The Chiefs are only shopping in the bargain bin this offseason, and thus should bring in 4 compensatory picks next year (my guess: a 3rd, two 4ths, and a 5th).

2. The Chiefs could open up cap space for next year by releasing Tamba Hali, Brandon Flowers, and Sean Smith.

If the Chiefs do bring in 4 compensatory picks, they will have 11 picks, 9 picks in the first 5 rounds in 2015.

If the Chiefs do cut those players, which I reckon they might, that would open up about $24m in cap space. On top of the $24m they're already projected to have (pre-Alex Smith and pre-Justin Houston extensions which will take up cap space, and pre-Eric Berry extension, which will free some up), that'll leave the Chiefs with $48m in cap space in 2015.

That should be enough to account for extensions for Smith and Houston, and still have over $30m left over for tons of free agent signings if they so desire, and tons of draft picks to either (a.) trade for talent, or (b.) bring in great talent in the Draft.

Just some food for thought.

**** it then, why even play this season if next season is the plan??? Because THIS season should also be part of the plan. I would rather have have sucked total ass and not traded two #2's away if the Chiefs were gonna take a step backwards THIS upcoming season. This SHIT GETS OLD!

Why....when the fans have shown that they'll instantly give you your 2nd year as a "down year" and "rebuilding year"?

Not exactly a rule you're building there. Sounds like an exception.

I think the Chiefs made an "all in" investment with mostly Pioli/Herm guys because they had the resources to do so last year.

It looked pretty good to me. 12 wins (I'm counting San Diego Week 17) and a damn good playoff performance that sadly crumbled under the weight of 5 key injuries.

It didn't work out. So now the Chiefs are going back to the drawing board for a year, stocking up for 2015/2016 and make their play then.

The Colts were already well on their way back when Flowers left. He wasn't the difference maker back there - the only secondary player who had a decent game was Abdullah.
