The last time a Belichick protege traded for a #Patriots backup quarterback, his name was Matt Cassel & the victim was Scott Pioli.

From what I am gathering, Pats don't have anything going with the Texans on Mallett right now. We shall see

And then draft one of the falling QBs.

With the 140th and final pick of the 4th round of the draft, the New England Patriots select Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU.

That wouldn't be a bad pick.

Why the **** are they interested in Mallett when the Chiefs have the best backup in the league?

The Texans are only interested in gifting draft picks to the New England Patriots.

Mallett knows the system, would probably cost either a 3rd or a 2nd round swap, and would have a year to prove himself, one way or the other.

It would actually be a defensible move for both teams, if O'Brien thinks Mallett has a chance to be a starter. It's not as if he'll be passing on Andrew Luck this year.

It makes a hell of a lot more sense than the Chiefs trading Berry would.

I was gonna post a thread about all the QBs drafted in last few years that are rotting on the bench. Just like 80% of this class will be.

The fascination with Mallett is amusing to me...Cassel part 2.

It's part of the requirements of the tree. When they signed their original contract with NE there's a clause that says
Quote:

Should you ever be promoted to GM or head coach of another team you must immediately start trading picks to the New England Patriots. These picks may either be for one of the following:
  • Players on the downside of their careers
  • Overrated players who will do nothing for your team
  • Untalented players who are made to look good by Tom Brady

At no point may you try to trade for a skilled or up-and-coming player. All trades must be weighted in NE's favor.
It's not their fault they do this. It's part of the contract.

Ryan Mallett is gonna be a stud in this league once he gets the chance to start.

wish we would have drafted him.

SPchief 05-08-2014 03:13 PM

How many snaps has he taken in the NFL? 6?

Edit: Not counting preseason games, he's taken 4

Defensible right up until the Texans give him a 4-year $65M contact before he's ever played a down in their uniform...
