Holding on Fisher? when Tamba routine gets a choke hold 10x worse than that.

that mumbly head official always screws us, just like Hoculi

could just be conspiracy theory (so far after that last game), but the home teams seem to get more leeway. Could it be to drive up excitement and revenue for the stadiums? Maybe they wanted Cam and Co. to show themselves as a legit threat to the NFCW crown? Sure felt like KC was the red-headed step-child in that game.

OldSchool 08-18-2014 11:17 AM

And there were moments when our WRs got absolutely mugged and nothing was called while our DBs were getting flagged for even breathing on a WR. It was ridiculous.

OldSchool 08-18-2014 11:22 AM

Don't tell me there's no damn agenda to make the league's stars look better than they actually are.

Penalties being emphasized and rules being created because some star got dominated in a huge game? Or a big money maker in the league got injured? Check.

Media talking up every 1st round QB or major market starting QB like he's the next coming of Joe Montana/Dan Marino? Check.

Oh how I long for the days of the hard hitting safeties in the league who were actually allowed to hit WRs coming over the middle or going deep. Or the days when pass rushers could hit the opposing QB as hard as they can without fearing any penalties from the league.

I also saw some pretty good protection that Alex could have worked through and not taken a sack on.

It all comes down to which guy makes his "whoops" mistake at which time. Fisher and Allen happened to have most of them.

I agree with this. Basically, it looked like a preseason game.

RunKC 08-18-2014 11:29 AM

Alex missed on that tip from Keuchly which is his fault, Fasano dropped an easy pass that ruined the drive which likely would have resulted in a TD.

I think with Charles back we'll be better, but we should have put 10 points on the board at the end of the 1st Q.

I haven't been keeping up with Chiefs news all week, but I assume that Albert Wilson was still a bit gimpy and didn't play?

no jumping on you, but if the pass was tipped? isn't that just a great defensive play? was Alex staring the pass down? or... ?

yes, Albert didn't play. Don't think he even made the trip.

Coaching

I believe some teams coach 'cheating' better than others.

we do a shitty, shitty job of teaching players to bend the rules without getting caught.

Shows up most with OL,DB,WR

Oline holding without HOLDING
WRs setting a pick without looking intentional
DB's nagging WRs without holding

Probably part of it, but I think reputation and consistent winning has something to do with it, too. It's sort of like how the best pitchers in major league baseball get a bigger strike zone. They sort of earn that privilege over time. Think it's the same way with both NFL teams and quarterbacks. Denver can get away with stuff now that they didn't a couple or three years ago, I think in large part because of Peyton Manning. I think they benefit from calls against the other team for exactly the same reason. Maybe we get the same treatment had we somehow brought him in (as impossible as that was realistically speaking...). Right now we're a crappy franchise that's played crappy ball for most of the last 15 years, and I don't think we either get or have earned a lot of respect or leeway from either the league or the officials. Maybe if we continue to win, if we start to build a reputation on either side of the ball, calls start to go our way. Or maybe not. I do think there's something to what you're saying, we still seem to have some issues with basic technique (like jamming receivers legally).

What part of the thread title 'closer look at the offense' confused you?
