So it's the "crying" aspect you have a problem with? Well, when they turn Superman into a 20 year old hipster chic, you might just get your wish.

If the position of a superhero being completely at the mercy of a villain, those cover's are everywhere. I just posted that one since it was very close to the "held by a sexual predator" theme that most people are talking about.

So then I'm to assume that if she had a pissed off look on her face.....everyone would be fine this cover?

unlurking 03-19-2015 05:07 PM

lol

She should look like she's about to go berserk and rape the joker.

I'll have to watch this

I'm pretty sure everyone crying about being too PC doesn't even read comics or, at the very least (and most important) isn't going to buy this issue anyway. Knowing DC, they're probably pushing for this to be a story/controversy as they're dying for any sales at this point

Yeah - I own an original copy of the Killing Joke, and read it before I probably should have (from an age perspective).

At the time (believe I was like 4-5 grade), it was the most disturbing thing I'd read / seen up until that point.

This cover is definitely pays homage to that storyline and the events that
happened in said graphic novel. To me, its all the way in which this version is marketed.

The original Killing Joke shouldn't have been marketed to kids (and I don't know that it was) - but I bought one at a Comic Convention with little to no issue. I just thought, "Sweet - another Batman / Joker Annual!". The vendor happily took my money.

If this version of the cover isn't put out on newstands or racks where kids can easily access it - then I don't really see the issue.

they later revealed that moore/bolland actually implied he also raped her in the original artwork

It's a one shot and not terribly long...you could consider reading it.

<a href="http://sequart.org/magazine/37184/original-more-explicit-artwork-for-the-killing-joke-surfaces/">Here's an article about the original artwork.</a>

I re-read Killing Joke while I drank my coffee this morning. It holds up.

Jamie 03-20-2015 02:03 PM

The original artwork doesn't imply rape to me any more than the printed artwork did. The only image that's altered is the one in the center of the third panel. She's more explicitly naked, but she was obviously naked in the printed art.

I think one really fascinating aspect that seems to have escaped the microscope in all of this is that Barbara Gordon, AKA Oracle, ended up being a handicapped hero. Which is something we never see. And should be applauded.

The argument made a few pages back out other heroes making a full recovery is valid, but it's way more interesting to let Gordon stay paralyzed and continue to kick ass! There are so few of those heroes for those who need/deserve them.

My only problem with it is there has been a huge push by feminists wanting more fleshed out, real characters with flaws and problems like the male characters for equality.

When it happens there is a huge outlash against it being violence against women.

I agree. Nu52 was AIDS overall, pre-Nu52 had it's issues but overall pretty much perfect in the state it was in, particularly with regards to the Batverse and associated characters.
