This is pure speculation. The Chiefs or Berry have never said one thing to indicate he would not be a Chief for his entire career.

Berry has stated he wants to play here. He will most likely have another All Pro year, will be another year cancer free- and the Chiefs will take care of him.

I think a lot of us didn't even bother talking too much about it since it seemed like the only real outcome.

If everything was hunky-dory Berry would have reported before now. Even if they agreed to give him every other practice off or something.

Berry didn't report until late because he's pissed.

Even if he was just pulling a TonyG he would have reported when camp broke. Berry waited to the very last second he could and still give himself a chance to play week 1 to protect his FA next year.

What does playing week 1 have to do with protecting his FA?

He didn't come back early becausehe didn't want to play in any preseason games and get injured.

Rust causes injuries.

Especially if it gets in the skin.

Because if he doesn't play a full season this year it could reduce his perceived value to other teams in free agency. If he gets injured this year it will also probably reduce his FA value.

'just not wanting to play any preseason' is quite the example for teammates

Berry has never seem to avoid practicing or playing in the preseason in the past. That didn't happen until his contract negotiations.

I don't hate Berry but he's been overpaid his entire career and now he's pissed because the Chiefs don't want to overpay him even more. Reportedly he's also pissed because he doesn't want to pay insurance to protect himself and the Chiefs with his new contract.

Berry is being kind of a dick.

A lot of dumbassery saying he only had to play 6 games this season.

They say the same thing about Bosa. The longer you're away from contact drills the more likely you are to get injured.

agreed,

if he has a monster year, hes gone, while the chiefs try to retain poe.

if he has a down year, he stays at the chiefs offering.

Every single player understands not wanting to risk injury when looking for a second contract. Do people on this forum think players are dumb and mindless and don't understand what other players are doing? Guess what? All the other players are looking for a big second contract too and they understand an injury in the preseason can ruin all of that. You don't think they see what happened to Brandon Oliver and want to minimize the risk of that happening to them?

Figured it all along. He just didn't want to do training camp and early pre-season.
