A St. Louis County police officer was shot and killed this morning as well.

The officer and his partner were assigned to the Affton Southwest Precinct, and responded to a call for a disturbance in the 10700 block of Arno Drive. That address is located in Green Park.

St. Louis County Chief Belmar believes that the Officer Schneider encountered the 18-year-old suspect in the driver's seat of a vehicle. Schneider asked to see his hands. The suspect immediately opened fire, striking the officer. His partner returned fire and wounded the suspect. The police officer was also critically wounded in the shoot-out. He died from his injuries
Almost to a man, officers will tell you that approaching a car is the scariest thing they do.

****. This kid patrolled our subdivision regularly.

My wife is the head of the HOA and knew him pretty well, as he responded to a lot of calls from our residents.

RIP, Blake.

He was an excellent young officer, the little I know of him and from what his friends say. One of our officers went through the academy with him

I'm very sorry to see this happening so often. Blessings to your community.

Just a couple more things about Sgt. Owen and I'll stop...and of course keep Officer Snyder's family in my prayers as well.

Last night, my kids and I were on our way home from church and while crossing the freeway overpass, saw 2 fire engines parked with the lights on and spotlights shining up into the air. There were about 70-80 civilians standing on the bridge with flags. Turned out they were moving Sgt. Owen's body from the hospital to LA for the investigation. So we parked the car and waited about 45 minutes for the procession.

No joke, there were at least 150 black and whites that drove single-file down the 14 Freeway escorting the body and the officer's family and fire engines/other emergency vehicles and civilians packing out every single bridge between Lancaster and the LA Basin. We'll never forget it.

And then this bit from the Los Angeles ABC Affiliate:
