The Chiefs were still 12-4 last year, even though Alex had a poor year and Houston only played in a few games.

Andy's never had an itchy trigger finger so it'll either take multiple missed games by Smith and an impressive run by Mahomes for Reid to make the switch permanent, neither of which can be accurately predicted.

This isn't Smith's job to lose: He's the starter this year.

ROFL I was wondering if that's why you bolded it.

This is what I fear. I can understand letting Smith know that mistakes are tolerable, but where the line to sit him exists, is blurry.

Good. We need Alex to be fearful for his job. Competition has already brought out a different looking QB so far.

He should play his best ball this year.

We must be in the folklore stage of the Mahomes hype.

Next article will talk about how he saved a bus full of nuns from dying because he got the extended TV package at the ATT store.

Just kick back and enjoy the hype. Been a long time since we've had a Qb that the national media gushes over.

Ya again this is where Alex Smith holds us back from being a great team. He plays it safe to keep his job and counts on the defense and special teams to do all the work. It works when your defense gives you a short field and all you have to do is drive 30 yards for a field goal and now and then a big play to score a touchdown but that touchdown usually comes from ST kick return or a pick 6. So Alex has it made in the shade to keep his job.

Ming the Merciless 08-21-2017 01:01 PM

if he continues to light it up, and alex falters in any way...and the chiefs are in the hunt...

it could make for that perfect storm where we hand him the ball in the second half of a game around week 10 or something...and see what happens

Rasputin 08-21-2017 01:11 PM

I think they will find ways to get Patrick on the field even if it is some trickery play against the Donkies on a Monday Night. Andy Reid loves doing those kinds of things.

Every. Bit. Of. This.

I think Andy Reid has made it very clear Alex is the Chiefs starting QB for this season. Period.

Andy Reid shot down any speculation that rookie Patrick Mahomes II might challenge Alex Smith to be the Chiefs starting quarterback. "It's Alex's job," Reid said. "That's how we're doing it. The next question is you come back and say, 'What if Alex gets hurt?' I would never say (Mahomes) can't do something but I would tell you in this case it's Alex's job. There's no gray area with that."

Agreed. What's Reid supposed to say - make me an offer?

It's gonna be fun in week 3 of the season...
