I have had it done twice on a truck I once owned. A Ford super duty with a V-10. The first time it didn't take, the 2nd time it did. When it cut loose the first time, I thought the engine had gone south. :hmmm:

I used a Helicoil once on an ex-girlfriend and it worked fine, she fired on all cylinders and loved it.

What the hell is a Helicoil? :hmmm:

As soon as I clicked on this, the Napa jingle "Napa Know-How" popped into my head. :D

i use helicoil save a thread for spark plugs, they are solid inserts. it comes with a stepped tap. it threads into the existing hole and then steps up to a larger size. then you screw an insert on a plug, loctite it and screw it into the hole. when the loctite sets up then you remove the plug and put a drift in there thats tapered and hit it with a hammer to make a seat for the plug in the insert.

takes me about 10 minutes other than he loctite setting up

Has anyone tried these? Was curious if they'd be stronger than a regular helicoil for a high compression engine.
