Deangelo Hall knows.

I've said it.

He's not a press/man corner. He wasn't good at it in KC, and he wasn't making plays like that. He's a read and react guy who works best in off coverage. That's been the case his entire KC career.

He's a square peg and Wade's scheme is a round hole. Wade should adapt, because Peters isn't going to suddenly become a press man corner who can shadow around the field. That's not his game.

The Chiefs were primarily a zone coverage scheme these past few seasons. This is why Peters forced so many turnovers, being able to play zone, read and react. The Chiefs emphasized all off season how they wanted to play man coverage.

Peters isn't a good man coverage corner and his season with the Rams, who want to play press, is illustrating that.

Couple that with his abrasive personalty and big pay day coming due, the Chiefs parted ways.

Peters can play man just fine, but keep him on the OUTSIDE and let him play OFF.

If he can see and diagnose the play, he can stay ahead of the route. Peters isn't a freak athlete corner who runs a 4.2 and bases his game on lightning quick reactions to WR movements.

He's still a guy that will get beat a times, but at least this way he'll be taking the ball away more.

it's not just hindsight. I told people he wouldn't fit in Wade's scheme when the trade happened and the general response was 'Sutton sucks and wade is good, therefor you're stupid."

Well...

FYI Steve Nelson is the 14th best corner in football this year per PFF...

I think he's just hitting the bong too much

Became more interested in being a side show than football player.

I know that this is a joke. But it is interesting how the 2 best corners that we've had in recent years have sucked after they left KC. The other corner being Sean Smith. And really, Smith wasn't all that great in Miami before he became a Chief. Many of us wondered why we signed him. But he turned out to be very good for KC. Then he left for Chokeland and sucked. Now, Scandrick is looking much better in this system than he has in recent seasons. I can't explain why that has been the case.

California dreamin, man

Also, with the Rams he's shadowing #1's, which he was not doing in KC. In KC, opposing offenses moved their #1 around to create the ideal matchup.

The list of corners that have struggled here under Sutton might be longer than those that thrived. (Maybe that's true of most teams? I don't know.) If only we could add to the list of safeties that thrive here under Sutton. :(

It's actually completely wrong that the Chiefs were a zone team with Peters.

1. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Man Coverage Rate: 63.5 percent

No team plays more man-coverage than the Chiefs. The Chiefs use Cover-1 (man coverage with a single-high safety) as their staple coverage, and run it more than any other side. They have allowed three passing touchdowns in this coverage shell and five touchdowns in man coverage overall, allowing just 50 percent of the passes thrown against their man coverage to be caught.
But what I'm guessing is that the Rams are barely playing any off-man coverage, which allowed Peters to read the QB and give a cushion on deep balls. If he's just playing straight bump and run most of the time he's going to get toasted by guys who are faster than he is.

I also see they're putting Peters in the slot, and the Chiefs NEVER did that IIRC.

Imon Yourside 11-06-2018 02:57 PM

Peters only plays good pissed off, i'm telling you that's what is missing.

rabblerouser 11-06-2018 02:59 PM

Bob Sutton really knew how to get the best out of him?

It was Sutton's Scheme!!
