I'd still call that a dropback passer, but if you are going to distinguish that from a 'pocket' passer in that the former utilizes the play action more, I guess I won't argue.
Conventionally I would say a dropback passer is just a guy that makes his throws from a pocket at the back of his drop, regardless of how they get there. Semantics either way.
I guess it's ultimately McVay's reliance on the 11 personnel that make the TE less of a pass-catching weapon in their offense, but it still seems odd to dedicate those kinds of resources to a glorified blocking TE.
Somehow Demetrius Harris just became underpaid...
