Holy crap, I hope this isn’t real.

comochiefsfan 01-26-2020 01:45 PM

Wow. If true, this has to be among the most shocking celebrity deaths ever.

smithandrew051 01-26-2020 01:46 PM

WTF. Dude was just all over the news like yesterday when LeBron passed him in scoring.

Awful if true. Always one of my favorites.

Not on ESPN?

Like them or not, TMZ has been pretty solid in getting news like this first recently.

I'd guess a "legit" source will have confirmation in the next half hour.

Pushead2 01-26-2020 01:46 PM

Wow. damn. RIP.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-26-2020 01:46 PM

Lebron just passed him last night to take 3rd place all time scoring

ShowtimeSBMVP 01-26-2020 01:46 PM

Chiefspants 01-26-2020 01:46 PM

Well this is just terrible. Ugh, feel sick to my stomach about this.

FWIW, the nearest airport to Calabasas (KVNY) has been reporting IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) with 2.5 Statute Miles Visibility and 1500 Overcast most of the morning.

I have a lot of helicopter experience as a reporter, and while those conditions are not out of the realm of possibility, it is most certainly a contributing factor, barring catastrophic mechanical issues.

The terrain gradually increases going West toward that area from KVNY, and most likely he has/had a house in the hills with a pad. Regardless, pure speculation on my part, and while I am not a big NBA fan, this deeply saddens me.

****!

He commuted from that area by helo during his playing career, didn't he?

So many athletes are fiercely dedicated to their sport and when their body betrays them, they just don't know what to do. They retire and wander life aimlessly.

Kobe, OTOH, had grabbed post-retirement life by the horns. He was loving it and had matured so much as a man and as an ambassador for the Lakers/NBA. He had plans on plans on plans.

He seemed to realize after leaving the game that he'd spent his life preparing for his time AFTER it. And embraced it.

This just ****ing sucks.

**** man. I wasn’t that big of a basketball fan at all but this is a huge loss.

Yeah, TMZ may miss on some small stuff but they aren't gonna report the death of the biggest global personality in basketball (dude's still a God overseas). That's a misfire that would shut them down for good.

Hard to hold out much hope on this one.

Pitt Gorilla 01-26-2020 01:51 PM

I assumed this was a joke due to Lebron passing him in scoring last night. It appears to be real.

KCFalcon59 01-26-2020 01:51 PM

Very sad! R.I.P Gone way too ****ing soon.

Eleazar 01-26-2020 01:52 PM

More outlets reporting as fact now (correction - some re-reporting the TMZ reporting). Wife said not to be on board.
