Overall, yes. Depends on the subject though. Start talking math and shit and I would be way above average, but if you start talking history then it might get a little hairy.

Knowing history or lack thereof is not intelligence. That is acquired learning. Some people can remember things easier than other, which has some correlation of intelligence but a dumb ass son of a bitch can know a ton about history and still be as smart as Forrest Gump.

In fairness, it's a really low bar. Even our dumbest posters probably clear it.

I had sky high standardized test scores all through school. I have a J.D. and a molecular biology degree. I even studied at Oxford University. Hard to imagine that I'd be below average. However, interesting that everyone who has answered says "yes" so far (19 votes).

Either people are delusional or there's an implicit selection bias in that few people who are aware they lack intelligence aren't going to go out of their way to say, "Yes, I'm a moron."

If Loneiguana votes, I'm sure he thinks he's above average.

Nuff said.

I had a grandpa who couldn't read or write so he obviously had never read a book, yep, he talked like a simple man would. But.....he could cook better than any woman I have known, he played the guitar, the fiddle, the harmonica, the drums. He could fix anything broken, an ace mechanic, he could grow the biggest tomatos, he knew how to get people to do what he wanted done, and in a way they wanted to do it.

I have a buddy who can't even change his oil, can't cook, can't play anything who is a lawyer.

Intelligence???

I can't imagine anyone knowing more "stuff" than myself but is that intelligence?

I can only go by the people I've met in my half-century of life. And in all my various jobs, most of the customers and coworkers I've come into contact with are total ****ing morons. To the point that I've told many a person I want to have a t-shirt made that says, "Am I Really That Smart, Or Are You All That ****ing Stupid?" I'm fairly intelligent, literate, commonsensical, have attention to detail, am punctual (usually never late or absent from work), and in everything I do, once I figure out how to do it, I'm usually one of the best at it. All of that seems to put me well above the average. Either I'm Einstein, or I'm the smartest person in this short bus of a country, I don't know.

(And before you go "Patriuts fan so its where u ar, herp derp", I've lived in Boston, but I've also lived in Tampa FL and Syracuse NY and now I'm in Providence RI. It's been equally stupid everywhere.)

Your examples make a very good point... there are many different kinds of “smart”

Yeah but you STAYED in Canada, which drags you back down to being borderline.
