From a competitive standpoint, you're pretty much right. The issue is that games that don't get played don't make any money, and the players on those teams don't get paid.

Unless you're the Titans most teams seem to be shutting things down pretty quickly. And I'm guessing the NFL is sending a pretty strong message to players. "don't be that guy." i think it's a temporary blip and a few weeks from now the NFL will have it pretty much under control.
