Tom Surdyke was one of three members of the West Point Class of 2019 who died during their four years there. Passed away saving a life, albeit not in a military capacity.

Sorry for the loss of your friends. Care to share something about them that made them who they were?

Thanks for asking.

Bill volunteered to be a commander of a California National Guard unit after they had experienced some problems. Good, solid soldier. Tough, focused, but always down to earth and real.

Jaimie was smart, funny, talented and was clearly headed places. Tenacious when she needed to be. She was the kind of person that made the room brighter the instant she entered.

Hans was young and enthusiastic. It was contagious. We deployed to Kosovo together and then I left the division before they deployed less than a year later to Iraq. He died while on patrol during that deployment.

It’s hard to fathom even all these years later. Young, bright people who were taken from this world too soon. I hope their families found some peace and solace.

Weep not that these men/women died. Rejoice that they lived.

This is hard to do but once you can life makes a lot more sense...

My dad was adopted just recently found his mother and learned about that side of the families history. Turns out my great grandfather died in Okinawa during WWII. He was there just 5 days sent on a mission they were told there was a good chance they wouldnt come back from. I have some of his military papers.

I've never lost anyone but I've had and still have a bunch of family in the military.

Cool thing that happened this morning though from my brother who was 8 years Navy and 2 National Gaurd. I was planning to follow in his footsteps but decided I would ride bulls for a few years after highschool before enlisting and ended up with to much broken shit to go.
Anyways, I woke up this morning and had extra money in my bank account. With all the stupid shit I got going on he said he wanted to pay my health insurance for a month. Asshole, made me cry at 5:30 this morning. God bless him and to all of those who served.

Made me think of this. And screw you if you don't like my "twangy" shit.
