"by far?" Let's not get too nuts.
Russell's teams were loaded with HOFers. Wilt used to complain about it all the time.

Russell helped make the players around him better. He never sat out games due to “load management”.

He won a lot of championships, but the NBA had about 10 teams during those years. So he had a 10 percent chance of winning each year.

Today's NBA has 30 teams, so each team has a 3.3 percent chance of winning each year.

I contend that his 11 championships equate to 3.33 championships in the modern era.

As a kid I loved watching the Celtics I remember especially his battles with the Knicks and Willis Reed.

Sadly remember Chamberlain in his older years when he didn't even attempt to get back on defense. He would wait at half court then set up in the key wait for a lob in and score with the hook.

I've listened to a lot of Simmons Podcasts that have Russell stories. They're awesome man. He was ****ing awesome.

How is that even possible? Did he never give the other guys a chance?

League was different then, they played an insane pace and missed a ****ton of shots. All the guys from that era have a pissload of rebounds and blocks.

Boston citizens showed Russell their true appreciation by breaking into his home and taking a shit in his bed.

Wouldn't be a NBA thread here (even a Bill Russell death thread apparently) without somebody ridiculously hating on LeBron out of the blue for no reason.

Anyway, I would have loved to have seen Russell in his prime. One of the greatest defenders of all time.

Rainman with a solid logical argument.

Interesting point. I don't follow basketball at all. I could see a lot more missed shots in the olden days controlling for distance, but is that true even with the three- point shot now?
