I want to see bombs. I want to see them now.

That would be interesting and would add excitement to the games. However, defenses are at such a disadvantage that I hate to give an offense even more of an advantage. Maybe if you pass that rule, you can also pass a rule that defensive players are allowed to pull the quarterback to the ground.

Greg Cosell of NFL Films and ESPN’s NFL Matchup show is fond of saying that one of the traits of top-level quarterback play is the ability to eliminate what isn’t there, and to isolate what is. Mahomes has done a much better job with this in 2022. One reason this is the case against two-deep stuff is that Mahomes seems to be looking at defenses this season from the bottom up, as opposed to from the top down. He’s not starting with the end of the coverage; he’s reading through the matchups, x-ing out the progressions that don’t work, and confidently pinpointing what’s going to be open. And when you have Mahomes’ combination of velocity and accuracy, more things are open to you than to most other quarterbacks.

Weird I was told on this very message board Mahomes wasn’t doing this. :hmmm:

If Mahomes has solved Cover 2 there isn't much left for him to conquer, he just needs to be consistent.

Can’t wait to see what they have dialed up for the Bills. I suspect we will be seeing quite a few new wrinkles.

According to Mahomes, they pulled out some new stuff against the Raiders, including some stuff they didn't even practice.

I'm guessing we're going to see all kinds of new wrinkles against the Bills.

Mahomes' play has been far from optimal QB play at times. He had some trouble adjusting to what defenses were throwing at us last year. Sometimes we lived on the freakish ability of Hill and Kelce more than anything. But the personnel we have now is probably better suited, from top to bottom, at using the whole field and sustaining drives. Reid has adjusted the offense to respond to the 2 deep looks, and by the end of this year I think we'll be saying that Mahomes has improved as a passer a lot.

All the things that make Mahomes great and help him overcome mistakes and create opportunities out of nothing also mean he doesn't play textbook football all the time. He's not going to be the clinical efficiency type like some other great QBs are. He's always going to be one of those who has feel for the game and instinct as a major part of his game. Seeing him develop as a passer makes him more dangerous, but we don't want him to change what essentially has made him great.

You know I kind of though the same but then I watched the Commanders vs Bears game and a couple Bronco games.

That's when our offense is the best, when Mahomes gets that dump first mentality on every drop back. Andy has always been great at calling games to his teams strength and throwing the long ball is not Mahomes long suit. Just continue dumping them to death. The only defense to the constant short passing game is consistent good tackling which doesn't exist in today's NFL and Andy knows that.

they play >70% zone usually. That worked for Cincy last year but it won’t this year.

These teams know each other well. Our talented. They will change up from expectations on both sides of the ball. But, eventually it’s Mano on Mano. Here’s our best against your best.

Didn’t notice this. They played with 6 DB’s on that 3rd and 15 and took Kelce out of the play. So it was essentially 3vs 6 with the Raiders advantage and Patrick still made it work.

That’s why they need speed on offense.

Also I find an embed to paste from iPhone (if anyone can show me that, that would be swell)

This offense had a zillion turnovers and penalties last year. It made the offense appear more inept than it was. They were moving the ball, just not scoring points.
