Coming back a year after losing the SB is statistically a tough challenge. I think those teams have missed the playoffs a lot. Not sure if that trend has changed a lot in recent years but I know for a while that was happening.

Football is a bit fluky and any given Sunday can happen during the playoffs.

The SB hangover is sometimes nothing more than reverting to the mean.

Could be. But I would be interested to compare teams that make the playoffs and then miss vs teams that make the SB and then miss and see if there is a statical difference.
