Pretty sure he was an Air Force vet, as well (worked in intelligence, maybe?).

RIP to a childhood favorite.

Megatron96 11-11-2022 05:29 PM

How the hell was he 76? Could've sworn he was only maybe ten-fifteen years older than me.

Well, RIP watermelon killer.

Its amazes me he became so famous with that gimmick, and I say that as a kid who thought it was cool back in the day

Anyway, RIP

The first time I saw his act I thought it was hilarious. I was probably 12 years old or so. But I'm not sure I ever saw him with different material after that first time.

Same. Saw him as a kid and laughed so hard I got hiccups. Mainly because of the troll value of him smashing crap that flew all over the crowd who were screaming and did not seem to know that was his act. After that everybody knew his act and it lost something once people knew what was coming.

Yeah, he was a one trick pony with the comedy. But evidently able to make to 76 and raise a couple of kids.

Had a better life than most. RIP

The Mrs and I were out antiquing today and came across an old circus hammer. I told her it reminded me of the sledge-o-matic. We had a little discussion about him and what he might be up to. Then the news of his passing popped up on my timeline. I hope the shock of someone mentioning his name didn't do him in. Anyway, I loved his act back in the day. RIP

Kiimo 11-11-2022 06:45 PM

Oh he had PLENTY of other material than smashing watermelons.

You don't want to read it though. He turned into old racist grandpa really quickly.

Stewie 11-11-2022 06:48 PM

RIP.

He had a long career as a comedian. I remember him from the early 80s through the 2000s, at least.

Looking at the home he lives/lived in, he did very, very well.

TimeForWasp 11-11-2022 07:16 PM

Was he a member of smashing pumpkins?

Well, now I'm curious.

Every time I read Gallagher died at 76, I think 'JFC I didn't realize was this old'.
