There's not any close to me, but I do make a occasional trek into the Dotte to pick up Krizman's. I'll backtrack to 7th and roll into Amourdale for some Art's Mexican and then on to Bichelmeyer's for a 1/2 dozen steaks from the case. Hey, gas isn't cheap and oldman isn't as spry as he used to be. It was much easier when we lived in Topeka.

Is Fritz’s still around? They used to have really good smoked turkeys.

And I got something new this year. In the late 30’s, someone put some beef cows on an island off of Kodiak. The descendants of those cows roam free range all year. While it can get cool, it doesn’t get super, super cold so the cows can eat grass all year long. No steroids. No antibiotics. No growth hormones. And every fall, a few of them are butchered and sold. I’ve been on a waiting list for a couple of years and just got this year’s shipment so I haven’t had any yet but I’ll post the results.

more info about the cows, their environment, and why they are unique is here:

This family owned farm is in Odessa

Second year in a row I’ve bought a half cow from them. Very good results. They use a local butcher/packaging plant. Very customizable in your order. Whole cow, half. 1/4 or just get a bunch or ground beef.

You should probably have a freezer……

Film? Huh? Is it some Hollywood production. Is this my screen test?

As long as they aren't taking my kidney I think I'll be okay.

Yes
They’re also a bakery, so…

My butcher has raised prices to the point it's not worth it. Sprouts has really good meat. It's a bit more expensive than other grocers, but the quality is top notch.

Are they also a candlestick maker?

Rain Man 11-16-2022 08:42 AM

There's a butcher shop a few blocks away from us, and I've been there a couple of times in my three decades of living here. There are two grocery stores that are closer, and I'm not that discerning in my tastes.

For anybody in the KC Northland looking for a good butcher - The Upper Cut KC is incredible.

IowaHawkeyeChief 11-16-2022 08:53 AM

buy 1/2 beef from a local farmer and the local butcher prepares and wraps for freezing.

FlaChief58 11-16-2022 09:11 AM

For most things I get my meat frim Winn Dixie. If I'm looking for something special I go to the butcher. There's a place in Tampa called Wild Fork we go to when we want game meat like ostrich, yak, antelope etc

redfan 11-16-2022 09:16 AM

Yep, Paradise Locker meats in Trimble is my northland go to. They have nice bacon.
