I also wouldn't change a single thing before the Mahomes era. You go back and start giving Alex Smith playoff wins and suddenly there's a chance that we don't even trade up for Mahomes. **** that timeline.

Yes, this all the way

Do we win the super Bowl in 2020 if Fisher doesn't get hurt? The game would be closer but not sure about winning.

I agree with whoever suggested you cannot win every season. If KC wins in 2018, there's not telling whether they win in 2019. Also, no telling if they beat the Rams in 2021. We do know that KC made back-to-back Super Bowls, and had a great chance to repeat in 2020. That's the game I regret the most. Even more than 1995 or 1997. Repeating would have made last year's failure less bitter.

Bernard Pollard does not injure Tom Brady's knee in 2008.
Matt Cassel never starts a game in his career.
KC Drafts Mark Sanchez in the 2009 Draft.

There was still like 90 seconds on the clock when that happened. Plenty of time for the Bengals to score a TD on KC's defense. Now if Mahomes converted on 3rd down, that would probably be the game. The Bengals would have about 30 to 35 seconds to score a TD (assuming Butker makes the extra point to extend to a four point lead).

The Dee Ford one is the biggest shitbird to me.

irafreak 01-13-2023 08:37 AM

But if dee Ford lines up ok, do we still have Bob Sutton as dc?

KC_Lee 01-13-2023 08:58 AM

Trent Green does not get injured in the pre-season and remains the Rams starting QB
Dick Vermeil becomes the Chiefs' coach as in our timeline and brings Kurt Warner with him.
Roster construction remains the same as when Dick Vermeil joined KC in our timeline
Kurt Warner leads KC to 4 Super Bowls, winning 2, and puts KC in the trifecta of teams that dominate the AFC (KC, Indy, NE) through the 2000's.
Priest Holmes and Kurt Warner each win NFL MVP twice during the 2000's.

The "problem" with exercises like these, both in thinking about sports or life in general, is that people tend to post script to get the result they wanted. For instance, to use one of your examples, what you are or at least could be alluding to is that if Eric Fisher doesn't tear his tendon, the Chiefs win the SB that year. The reality is, we have no way to know if that was true or not. We know that a healthy Fisher would've given us a better chance, but that's all we really know.

So basically the one thing we pretty much know for sure is that if Dee Ford isn't offsides, we win that AFCCG. However, contrary to popular (around these parts, anyway) theory, there is no guarantee that we beat the Rams.

And, just to cover your top 3 examples, Tyreek wasn't particularly close to scoring even though the play started close to the end zone. Playing with that one is akin to "Gordon should've been sent home " in '14. Nothing good came or would've come out of those scenarios.

Yep, this is another issue.

Personally, that 2020 Super Bowl in Tampa would have been tough with or without Fisher. Our defense clearly wasn't going to stop them. They put up 31 points on us essentially just running out the clock the entire second half.

I would like our chances in a rematch just hoping our guys didn't choke (we had so many drops that game), but it's far from a forgone conclusion that we'd have won with Fisher in the lineup.

How confident are we the Chiefs beat the Rams last season in the Super Bowl?

You're talking about a team that fell apart with an 18 point lead at home. Why are they going to LA and winning a road game in the Super Bowl against a Rams team with defensive studs, a motivated Aaron Donald, and Stafford/Cupp playing lights out? With our luck, OBJ doesn't get injured in that game either.

Yep, that would've been very hard to do. Playing back-to-back Super Bowls in the opposing team's home stadium. Would not like our chances at all had that been the case.

Dartgod 01-13-2023 09:57 AM

What if a certain kicker didn't miss 3 field goals?
What if Denver was properly penalized for greasing their jerseys?

Yep. Especially since, it would have been GAME OVER because Brady threw an interception on that play. **** Dee Ford FOREVER! What's so satisfying when we beat the 49'ers, and him, the following season in the Super Bowl!

Would not have mattered, I think. The lined up offsides play was with less than a minute to go, iirc, because I was watching that game at Santisi Bros. with my buddies and i went ballistic when Ward intercepted Brady; we thought the game was over before we saw the flag.

We were winning that game 28-24 with less than a minute to go. Even Bob wouldn't have been able to **** that up.
