Well yeah it's hard to define a catch, but this isn't the point of this thread. The TE caught it and was tackled before the ball crossed the plane. Now tbf the defender was in process of tackling him before he even had the ball and could have been PI.

Different then a runner whose shin/forearm/knee touching down.

Compliments to Chris Simms

This actually is a pretty good point. If they stick with the "rules" of what a catch is then that probably is a touchdown.

I asked this same question in the game thread because seems to me that would be a TD but understand also after looking at the still replay why they ruled it not a TD.

So how do we reconcile this: he wouldn’t be granted a catch until he survives the ground. So why is he ruled down once his knee hits (ball short of the goaline) before the he completes that act? Meh, looks like a tough call either way

Its Dallas, so no1curr

BleedingRed 11-07-2023 08:03 AM

It should have been a touch down, if a CATCH isn't complete till surviving the ground.. (need this to determine possession) then the player can't be DOWN by contact without possession.

I ask again minions....

TE catches the ball "going to the ground" and touches the pilon before knee hits but loses the ball after hitting the ground. TD?!?

Has he established possession when he touches the pylon?

Nope. But touching the pilon with a pigskin is an autimatic DING DING!

Slow the video down enough, zoom in close enough, and you'll find a reason to overturn the call.

BINGO !!

It's where the ball IS when the knee or that part of the body that is considered 'down'.

Already did and he did not score. You would fail 'ref school'.:D

IF there is no possession when he hits the pylon and the ball goes through and out of the end zone, I believe it is the other team's ball at the 20. IF he has possession and hits the pylon he breaks the plane and it is a DING DING !!

If two feet are in bounds, but you keep possession when the ball hits the ground out of bounds...,

It is a catch even though the ball hit the ground out of bounds.

So it's no different with the ball hitting in the EZ.

By your standard two feet in bounds, the ball hitting out of bounds is no longer a catch?

If the ball jars loose out of bounds "while making the catch going to the ground" its an incomplete pass. Which is why I added the pilon variable. Clay is a pussy for not weighing in...he's to busy making gay videos
