I don't think a woman over 5'5" could ever compete in gymnastics. The uneven bars can't accommodate someone that size.

Simone is medically a dwarf at 4'8". That's crazy.

Deberg_1990 07-25-2021 07:06 PM

Why isn’t NBC showing any stuff live in prime time?

Why do I have to go to NBCSN, CNBC and USA to find live in prime time?

The bar heights are adjusted for gymnast height.

I was thinking spacing, not height. That seems to be a huge disadvantage to taller gymnasts.

Ok. Is she competitive? I bet not in all-around. She might be a specialist.

Kayla whatsherface that does the commercial with the frisbee on the roof said she was amazed how little the girls were when she was in 5th grade. She watched nationals in person and kind of freaked out. She finally stopped growing at 5'3" and became a specialist on the vault. It's a freak show, just like basketball players.

Uneven's. Bronze. 2016.

Then she, and her team are to blame.
No race radios in the Olympics. It is incumbent on the racers, and the team to be aware of race situation. At any time a rider can go back to team car to get info.
The Dutch team was strongest but they failed to communicate and see some vital signs that someone was up the road. Items like the motorcycle showing time gaps and even more importantly lack of lead car on indicating they were chase group not lead group.
**** the Dutch. They didn’t even congratulate the winner and their excuse is amateur.

Not really sure how a team can botch a dive and still score 9s and 9.5s yet another team makes the smallest mistake and gets 7s. So confusing trying to follow the scoring on this.

The fact that she’s from Seward where there are only 160 students at her high school and there is only one 50 meter pool in the whole state (Bartlett) makes it that more impressive.

When did skateboarding or surfing become more of a sport than weightlifting? Just because Americans are better at it, it gets more primetime coverage? Come on NBC. Don't be so nationalistic and yet whine about diversity all the time. I don't care if the best wrestlers or weightlifters are from other countries. Those are two of the oldest sports. Rather watch that over pothead sports.

They have pushed a ton of what they perceive as ‘lesser’ sports off to their apps or sister networks like CNBC and USA.

NBC only cares about what gives them the highest ratings. Didn’t even show any of the women’s gymnastics live during the today show this morning. Holding it back until prime time tonight

I enjoyed watching fencing and ping pong over the weekend, but to watch it live I had to hunt it down on USA or NBCSN at midnight.

Thats kind of the job isn't it? The mental pressure is inert to the sport is it not?

Everyone of those competing can do 99.9% of the moves. It's who can do it under the pressure of the moment. It's not a best of 7 playoff. You spent years training for this moment, who can perform under that pressure wins. Thats pretty much true for all the sports in the Olympics.

Put Biles in the Osaka category of snowflake athletes who enjoy all of the accolades of being famous... i.e. magazine covers, endorsements, media appearances, etc., however apparently they don't want to deal with the actual pressure of maintaining that fame with their athletic performances.

Or maybe it's just the fact that the pressure is just too ****ing insane.

How do you think a guy like John McEnroe would have handled the internet and 24/7 paparazzi that encompasses athletes these days?

There is an enormous amount of pressure on these people, who just want to play their sport.

Not everyone wants to be "famous".
