Well, over the span of six weeks, they replaced all the splitters and cable from the Cable Box/DVR to the telephone pole outside my house, as well as the DVR itself (this required 4 seperate service calls). Then they replaced some of the main line cabling. Then they replaced an underground feeder line. Then they finally fixed it by either replacing or repairing a trap that was full of water.

Seriously, when you say the S-video cable makes that much difference over coax, think about the difference between RGB (component) cables and S-video.

The difference between HD and normal TV, especially for sporting events, is STRIKING. Your setup is preventing you from seeing it.

It sure is.

As a recent member of the HD club, I don't know how I watched games in standard def before.

I have my HD tivo hooked up to HDMI and my dvd hooked up with component.

The quality is out of this world amazing.

Is HDMI that much of an improvement over component cables?

The big bonus I think of HDMI is that it has a much greater distance limitation, and I also believe it has an audio spec...

And, from reading D* message boards I see they have had some reliability issues. Directv is now making their own unit so Tivo will probably sell out or sink.

Well, Tivo did sign that deal with Comcast after the Direct TV thing, so they may be around a while longer.

Comcast may be big enough to save Tivo. I don't really care. Diretv makes (or has made) it's own units now. I haven't seen any info, good or bad, on them.

Dave ... how does all that work? Do you have to pay Time Warner for cable?

I think I saw somewhere that on Comcast you could get just their internet service without paying for cable.

The mission house where we will live just installed a phone for us and the bill goes to the church. Meaning we cannot add a calling service. The sect. said "get a calling card." She doesn't understand that my wife will call her mother every day and it is an in state call.

They also pay for Comcast cable and broadband. That I can live with. But, by mistake I clicked on a Vontage add and I discovered I can add Vontage service without the bill going to the church. Problem solved....

But, when we buy our own house I plan to get DirecTV ... based on Skips recommendation. Anyone know if he is reliable???? Therefore, my question is for later. I want cable internet but the wife will not allow me to have both Time Warner (out of Memphis) and DirecTY. So, if I can just get RR from them ... I can keep my Vontage telephone and get DirecTV

Skip,

Does DirecTV have picture in a picture? One of my sons had DirecTV. He is between jobs now and it is disconnected. He said you must have 2 dishes in order for PIP to work. As he said, "It is nice to watch 2 games at once."

I think you need two receivers for it to work, not two dishes.

Manila-Chief 10-11-2005 09:38 AM

It seems to me that it is a T.V. issue and not a cable or DirecTV issue??? But, what do I know?
