I think people are mashing together 3 separate ideas -

1. Music performed by artists who are gay. (aruably Marilyn Manson participated in some bi stuff).

2. Music that the gay community listens to.

3. Music that is "gay".

No kidding.

I like music by Queen and Bowie, but for the most part I never considered their music to be “gay”.
