How so?

If there is atleast 4 people wanting to play, I'll get a game going.

ANy one of those can easily be set up just like March Madness. Just want to try and get at least 16 participants. I have done that before with darts. Turned out to be pretty fun. Just played 301 with double in.

Cricket is great too but takes a lot longer than 301.

At least four. That tells me that, once you've got four people, then you'll play. How did I read that incorrectly? When I think of a tournament, I think of at least 10 people at the table to start. Saying at least 4 sounded really low to me. Sorry if I misunderstood.

That's a solid idea. I'd certainly be willing to participate in such an event. Definitely sounds better than giving SPchief my money.

Too early to say for sure, but I'll do my best to make it again this year. Last year was a blast and I vote for the arthritis foundagion again like last year (my mom has RA so go easy on her Redrum.)

I am fine with an away game as I probably won't have the funds to attend a game this year (poor college student this time.)

I go to school in St. Joe now so travelling isn't an issue this year either.

I always look forward to these get-togethers for two main reasons: 1. Getting together with my friends from the BB who have become real life friends. 2. Attending a game. All other considerations are secondary. (And sorry, but no way in hell am I traveling 500 miles to watch a game on TV.) Obviously I have no problem contributing to your personal expenses for throwing the party, and I certainly have no problem contributing to the Planet fund (a drive of any kind for support of the Planet is long overdue, IMO). But as far as the charities go, it's just an added burden on top of what is already a fairly big expense for me. I'm not made of money, and gas, travel expenses and game tickets aren't getting any cheaper.

There were a lot of familiar faces missing last year, including a good chunk of the core group of people I most enjoy seeing when I come down. It was a real bummer that they weren't there. I know some of them had other things going on, but I can't help but wonder how many of them didn't show up because they felt the same way I do.

I appreciate all the work you put in these things, Joe, and I certainly mean you no disrespect. Your house is a great place for get-togethers. But I've personally had just as much fun meeting people at a local bar. For me, its about the people and the game.

Dude,no offense taken, this is the kind of honesty I was looking for and I totally respect where you're coming from.

As for a chunk of the core group missing I can't say why except for the ones I know for sure(Brian had a fraternity party in Rolla,Brandon was working,Russ was working) as for others(Jamie,Bob,Phil,Roy) I can't say except that none of them have voiced any concerns to me personally about the weekend and if they or any others feel that way please let me know. Please feel free to add other core members you're referencing as this was only my 2nd year hosting and I'm going off the top of my head while typing and no offense to anyone I'm forgetting.

Jeff(jsp) did put in a post last year about the cost to which I replied there was no way to get everything we offer at a bar for $50.As for your situation I have to say since you don't spend the evening with us and you don't drink $50 is alot of money for what you're getting compared to others.

Again, thanks for being candid this is the type of feedback I need,I do appreciate it.

I would more likely to go knowing that the party on Saturday will conclude after the game on Sunday. I have a hard time forking out big money for home game tickets and maybe even sitting by myself for the game. I would rather be surrounded by friends in a house or at a bar.

I couldn't afford the party AND a ticket to the game. I'd hate to have to leave that early to drive home. Especially if I've been drinking the night before. 3 1/2 hours driving is torture when you've had little sleep. I can understand those who would rather go to the game, especially if they're travelling very far.

I am much more likely to go if he is hosting for the game too. I would hate to drive out there just to have to rush home the next morning on little sleep in order to see the game. I like that he is considering doing this for an away game though.

Yeah, whatever. I do believe you're hammered by the time you step off the plane. It's all downhill from there.

Phobia 02-27-2007 10:28 AM

I think that the concept of having an away game bash has merit. Part of the problem with doing the home game thing is partying until all hours of the night and then getting up at 5:00 (or not sleeping at all) in order to get to the tailgate on time.

Certainly having an away game party would fix that issue.

By the same token, it is an all day party. Most people have left, passed out, or have simply had their fill by 10:00 PM. You could shut down the gameroom at that time. If people want to keep drinking, send them down to the pond. It's only the most hardcore of partiers who are still up at 3:00 AM. Heh heh.

I don't see a lot of out of towners coming to KC (St. Joe) for an away game party. If that's what we want then let's go with it. But if we're still planning to cater to the out of towners, we should keep it as a home game weekend.

FWIW, I didn't attend last year for a variety of reasons. By themselves, none was a show-stopper for me but cumulative we opted to skip it.
1. Priority shift. We don't drink heavily anymore. But if we had come, we probably would have.
2. Money. We bought a new house and had a custody battle last fall. I simply didn't have very much entertainment money left in the coffers.
3. Leadership. I stepped down from all my positions of influence within the Planet and the charity. I thought the courteous thing to do would be to stay away and let some other person(s) naturally fall into that role.
4. We ran ourselves ragged last fall. We didn't have a weekend to relax at all. The party is great but between the party and the game, the weekend is shot.

Frazod 02-27-2007 11:17 AM

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have two different get-togethers; one aimed at locals, and one aimed at out-of-towners. Clearly these two groups would tend to have different very different priorities, obligations and expenses.

Your post gave me a new idea,it would be a little extra work but I think it would be worth it.

Why not have a Planet Bash/Fundraiser in St Joe(very early in season) that lasts a weekend, possibly a Friday night icebreaker, the Saturday party as normal followed by the road game on Sunday. As many know we have the room to accomodate this or there are plenty of reasonable hotels just up the highway.

Secondly, later in the year,a Planet tailgate and home game with no ties to a charity so we can keep costs at a minimum. We'd have to agree upon a game early enough to go ahead and get tickets then like Frazod said meet up at a KC bar on Sat night and then have the planet tailgate and game on Sunday.

I'd be willing to do the bash/fundraiser weekend as well as coordinate the block of tickets through Arrowhead as long as ALL tickets were paid in advance by those wanting to attend.Could you or would you be willing to organize the tailgate?

Personally,I think this would cater to all Planeteers, those local could do one or both plus we'd still have an event for the out-of-towners.

Yeah making time for 2 could be a problem for some but I don't see the money being much different at all if you've attended in the past.

As for the fundraiser,my idea would be to cut back on Saturday's menu to help with Sunday's tailgate and party so we wouldn't have to adjust the price much.

Dole's working on some hellacious musicians for this year,I've already had the pleasure of hearing and I'm hoping to get a local client to help out with sponsoring that.

The game tickets should be about the same but who the hell knows with Arrowhead,I think I recall seeing a thread that single game tickets were taking a 17% hike.

Lastly,I can't speak for Phil but I'm assuming his tailgate would be reasonable especially if everyone is required to BYOB.

Agreed,I think as soon as the schedule breaks we make a final decision. Those needing game tickets will have to pay alot earlier than normal but I think if they're serious about attending they can find a way.

It really depends on what people want on the menu. Plus we could probably get a Blvd Wheat keg cheaper than what 50 people will drop on 6 packs. It might make sense to get our own keg.

I am a bit confused here, okay I'll go back and read the full thread, but as for "out of towners" go, I can only speak for myself but I'd be there for the whole weekend, doesn't make sense to fly from Orlando to KC just for 24 hours.

I hope you don't mind if I crash all weekend again, oh and the KEG idea is excellent, I dropped 80 bucks on my contribution of beer last time and would like to put that towards some Chiefs merchandise this time, or at least a hooker.

That's the reason why I didn't come last yr, I try to take it easy on Sat nights before Chiefs noon home games.

Not sure about the non-home game weekend, selfishly. I am planning on coming from the West Coast to Arrowhead for one game this year, I would most-likely plan it around the Nzonerfest.

That's just me.

That's not being selfish one bit, personally I appreciate the fact that you'd like to schedule your trip to meet alot of us as well as help out with the fundraiser.

Two parties? Better space 'em out a bit.

Herein lies the challenge if we do this, the fundraiser has to be in Sept.this year, hoping for good weather for the live music that Dole is setting up as well other things.

Do we lose anyone coming in say November due to colder weather for the 2nd get together?

If it is an away game I wouldn't necessarily think so. With Thanksgiving being in November however... I don't know, could hurt could help.

I believe the 2nd get-together is for the home game, that's why he's asking if anyone is going to puss out because of weather.

FYP

Bob Dole 03-02-2007 08:22 PM

Bob Dole just realized that he can't make the trip if it's for the 9/16 game.

Thought I'd bump this for anyone who still might want to give their opinion.

Thanks to the schedule makers if we do a home game we're pretty much stuck with the Vikings unless I plan on missing my college reunion and shoot for the Bengals game.
