It would be asinine for them to have everyone be Terran but this current move is asinine on their part so who knows.

In a shocking development, that I'm sure nobody saw coming, StarCraft II has been delayed until next year.

KCChiefsMan 08-06-2009 01:51 PM

YAY!!!

damn, this better be worth the wait! It was supposed to come out Q1 this year

No doubt we will be waiting until 2013.

At least it's not Valve, then it'd be out in 2020.

lota reports in Jan or Feb said expect it out by X-mas... never going to happen considering they still need at least 2 more characters, a new trade system, and pretty much everything else it seems...

diablo3.com has a decent forum though... full of pricks though..

KCChiefsMan 08-06-2009 07:56 PM

by the time these games come out my comp won't be able to run the game

Me too, RTS games are a dime a dozen they should push SC2 to the back burner and push D3 out asap.

As I understand it, D3 will be next year, as well, but who knows.

I get dragon age in october and ME2 in (hopefully) January or February, so I'm all good.

Yeah, with Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 2 all coming, I'm pretty good for RPGs. Though Diablo offers a different type of experience.

Sofa King 08-07-2009 10:31 AM

the trailors for D3 have it looking alot like a hybrid of WoW and Diablo 2... got some cool graphics, but i'm worried the classes are going to suck..they kept Barbarian, but thats the only holdover......

i spent alot of hours on D2 online... but dupes completely ruined the game and the trading system... and it became a business with everyone selling the gear online for alot of money....

D3 better be a big improvement and get here fast...

any other good RPG games out there i should be looking at? i dont currently have one i'm playing...

I don't know what the point of delaying a game two weeks is.

LOL, yeah I can't believe this thread has been going on this long. I was thinking we've been waiting on Starcraft II for about a year now, but it's been over 2 years.

RedDread 02-18-2010 10:26 PM

Wow, original post May 2007, jesus.

Bumping this because the closed beta just started. If you opted in you may have one waiting in your inbox. Some gameplay videos are already coming out.

Right now the game's slated release is sometime this summer (I'll believe it when I see it)

007 02-18-2010 10:46 PM

Meh, when they decided to release this in three separated packages I lost all interest.

I love the Terran stuff, and I kind of understand what they were going for with it.

Very backwoods in space type of thing, which fits the theme of being stranded far from earth on some very desolate planets.

Was also kind of sad that they went away from the heavy metal that they started going with for the Zerg in Brood War, but at least track 6 is decent.

Only 1 protoss track so far.

The Graphics are Gorgeous!

The game play is awesome - much more balanced.

I can't wait for this to come out - You only need to buy one copy to play as all 3 races online but if you want to play the campaigns you would need to buy a copy for each race you wanted

This game is awesome!

I'd guess that there will be enhancements for all 3 races as each new single-player version comes out like there was when the Broodwars expansion came out.

I downloaded the online version, not knowing that you can't actually start playing the game until noon today, when Blizzard starts digital purchases. UUUUGH

Blankey 07-27-2010 10:31 AM

I'll probably pick it up today. I'm not a big online RTS player.
Between SC1, AoE2, WC3, etc. I've played maybe 20 online matches and won a total of 0 of them lol
Maybe I can get into this one more.

It's playing very well so far.. I'm only a short amount in, but it feels like an updated version of StarCraft I.. which is exactly what I was hoping. Don't mess too much with a good thing. I'm just getting to weapon upgrades, and you can hire mercenaries for in-battle perks. Seems like this is shaping up to be a really good sequel.

One minor qualm: it's 2010, and I think the cutscenes must've been programmed five years ago. I'm playing on a 27" screen, so maybe I'm nitpicking, but the cutscene graphics are not at a 2010 level.

That's unfortunate. I like a good cutscene.

Yeah, and Blizzard usually has the best cut scenes of anybody. I guess all their cut scene resources went into the endless WoW expansions.

Stanley Nickels 07-27-2010 02:28 PM

The cutscenes, from a storyline perspective, are great. I guess they're not terrible, but I just got this computer and would love to see some heavy graphics in action.. the lines are sharper and the movement stiffer than what you should expect anymore.

Amnorix 07-27-2010 08:16 PM

So, stupid techno-question -- my computer has all the recommended stuff (except maybe CPU, see below) to play SC2 but instead of 2.6 Ghz it has only 2.0. Is that going to make playing this too painful to deal with?

My processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (whatever that means) and I have no idea how that compares to what they recommend.

Appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Blankey 07-27-2010 08:17 PM

Try this site and see if you at least the minimum requirements (try running it in IE if it doesn't work in Firefox)

I have a crappy old Nvidia 6800 and 1 gig of RAM so I have to run it at low settings, but it's still really fun. Can't wait to upgrade my PC though.

Your processor should be fine.

I might have to download this to check it out. Was never a huge fan of SC. I'm not really into twitch-RTS.

I am really liking the quick match system. It does a good job of finding players at your skill level. If you go on a hot streak it starts to look for players above your level. Also the challenges are a lot of fun.

If you mouse over your portrait it will show you what your character code is. Adding people this way will let you see them in SC2 only. Adding people via e-mail address (RealID) will allow you to see them across all Blizzard games, as well as their real name.

I can't say I ever expected my starcraft experience to include telling the jukebox in the bar to play sweet home alabama.

That whole in the bar between missions thing is giving me flashbacks to games from 15 years ago. Space combat games I think, but I can't remember which ones they were for the life of me, back when you'd have a trophy case and shit to look at between missions in your cabin. Wing Commander series maybe?

I finished the campaign. The gameplay and the mission design were excellent, but other than a few spots, the plot was pretty meh. The writing in particular was poor. The dialogue in the game is mostly a bunch of really cliche one-liners you would see in a bad movie trailer.

Some of the awkwardness produces some nice unintentional humor, like
Spoiler!

keg in kc 07-29-2010 01:02 AM

I'm enjoying it so far, but it's going to take me friggin forever to finish all the achievements. It took me about 27 attempts to finish the 2nd mission in under 10 minutes on Hard. I kept finishing 15-30 seconds over. And one of the achievements is finishing all 29 missions on Brutal.

Well yeah, video game writing is usually pretty goofy. I just beat it last night and that last mission, holy shit forget about it. Took me quite a few times before I had my bunkers, siege tanks, battleships and thors in line with a good enough set of svcs and repair ships behind them. I can't imagine that lvl on brutal.

Spoiler!

Basileus777 07-29-2010 02:40 PM

I think splitting it into three games did effect the single player, there was only really enough plot for about 8 missions, the rest was mostly filler. And yeah, video game writing as a whole is not good, but I felt much of the writing in the game was poor even by those standards.

I do wonder how Heart of the Swarm is going to handle things considering how the game ended. I'm not sure if it will it be concurrent with the Terran campaign or a "sequel."

Spoiler!

Yeah, that is just ****ing ludicrous. Also, when the **** did PC games start costing $60?

I can't blame Blizz for splitting one game into 3 and getting 3 times as much profit as they would have gotten by putting everything in one box. If there's demand, might as well take the opportunity. I, for one, am not buying that shit.

They started costing $60 when Activision made that the price for Modern Warfare 2. But I believe they said that the two expansions won't be full priced games. They'll probably be $40.

Activiosn can go **** their collective asses as far as I'm concerned. They took the evil empire title away from EA. I'm looking forward to see what Respawn comes up with. EA now has 2 best FPS studios (with Dice and former IW poeple). The Call of Duty IP will only carry Activision for one more release or so.
