Saying there's "no way" any of those OTs are available at 17 is a bit much.

Ellis to Atlanta is interesting. It's the type of pick I would have thought would be popular, but it's the first time I've seen it. I like Ellis, I think it'd be a great pick.

Almost every mock I read before the Allen trade had Williams going 18th to Houston. |
The Jared Allen trade actually increases the chances of a OT being available at 17. If the Chiefs had taken (or still take) someone like Albert or Clady at 5, that would be one more lineman off the board before 17. But now if the Chiefs go defense at 5, one additional team would have to go OL for at least one of the big 5 (Otah/Williams/Albert/Clady) not to be available.
All I can say is: Anybody but Merling. |

I'd say McKelvin (solves our need at CB and KR, so he'd be tough to pass up) and I am really high on Harvey. I can't see either of these guys falling that far, but some mock drafts have that happening. |

I think we'll have a really good shot at an OT with that pick. |
Here are my thoughts:
Gholston at 5, then take the BPA at 17. If Chris Williams is there, it's him. I would not spend the 17th pick on Clady...maybe on Albert.. If Williams is gone, they could easily get a guy like Devin Thomas or Rodgers-Cromartie, hell even Derrick Harvey. Sam Baker and Carl Nicks would likely both be there at 35 to help your line, or if you can get a guy like Quentin Groves and have two badass motherfuckers to rush the passer. If for some reason Kentwan Balmer drops to 35, he's a possibility as well. |
we just better not take an offensive lineman at #5, none are going to be worth it

Walter included the 7th round today. I'm not crazy about Coutu, but I love the Bowman pick:
210. Kansas City Chiefs: Brandon Coutu, K, Georgia I still can't believe Carl Peterson drafted Justin Medlock over Mason Crosby. Well, not true - when considering his recent drafts, I can definitely believe it. 239. Kansas City Chiefs: Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State The Chiefs need more receiving help, so why not take a shot here with the troubled Adarius Bowman? |
He gave the Chiefs 2 players I really don't like in Merling and Nicks, I read through the whole thing in the next round he gives the Chiefs Martellus Bennett who is one of my favorites.

2009 2 rounds
http://walterfootball.com/draft2009.php 5. Kansas City Chiefs: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida The Chiefs added a ton of young talent to their team in the 2008 Draft. One position they failed to address, however, was the quarterback position. If they have the fourth pick in the draft, Brodie Croyle must not have shown them much. People love to hate on Tim Tebow. I don't know if it's because Florida fans salivate over his athleticism, or the average male salivates over the girl in the photo next to him on the front page of this Web site. Look, I have no idea how great or terrible Tebow's going to be at the next level. But the fact remains that he's the top quarterback prospect in this draft class. Think about it this way - Tebow has more mobility, greater size and a bigger arm than Alex Smith, who was chosen first overall in 2005. Smith, like Tebow, came out of Urban Meyer's spread offense. If Smith can be chosen first, I think it's foolish to believe Tebow can't go in the top five, assuming he doesn't get hurt next year. Make sure you check out the Great Tim Tebow Debate. You can even vote on where you think he'll be drafted. 36. Kansas City Chiefs: Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech Patrick Surtain will be 33 prior to the commencement of the 2009 campaign, so it's likely that he'll be cut after this season. If that happens, the Chiefs will be fishing for a cornerback. Why not Brandon Flowers' former teammate, another guy perfect for Herm Edwards' defense? |
