Then lets add the fact that Pujols while great was not even the best player on his HS team (fort osage), they had stud pitching staff Hanna, Franca, one other person whose name slips my memory.. That 97 team was loaded with players all around..

Even at Maple Woods, where I went also with Pujols that team was loaded.. The guy turned into an amazing talent but to say other teams overlooked him is idiotic.. They guy did not look like he was going to be a HOF player while at those levels..

Enjoy the gem that fell in your laps..

I didn't say that the Cards knew something the rest of the league didn't; I said the Royals are extraordinarily stupid for NOT knowing something that the rest of the league didn't.

I repeat: They had a member of their organization LIVING WITH HIM. They had senior scouts watching him, they had guys within the organization who thought he was a good hitter but they were drafting for need (in the late rounds of the MLB baseball draft ?!?!?).

The fact that they didn't even take a flyer on him in the 10th is mind-boggling. Me saying that there's a difference in organizational aptitude is me stating that the Royals are the most poorly run franchise in the American league (fighting the Pirates for all of baseball). It's not saying that the Cardinals are full of sooth-sayers and talent scouting magicians.

GO CARDS

Pasta Little Brioni 06-17-2008 07:37 PM

Kyle Davies has been very solid this year. What's the deal with that?

Frazod 06-17-2008 07:53 PM

That was low, but he would have struck out anyway.

As bad as the respective lineups are today, the pitchers looked quite good as well.

Both guys were able to command their fastballs and work a pretty wide strikezone. They were both doing a pretty good job with their breaking stuff as well.

When you command your heat and have your breaking stuff going, you've got a quality start in the offing. When you're playing lineups as bad as STL and KC's are...you go 7 with only 1 earned.

SPchief 06-17-2008 08:08 PM

Nice play by Aviles

A sparkling ERA of close to 6 and nearly 1 walk per inning pitched yet because he's f'n lefthanded he gets a spot pitching close game in the MLB

Oh great, so we get to here excuses from Al and Dan as to why he is struggling. My favorite is when he walks a couple guys and they say he is "pitching around them" even if it's some scrub.

Well, you can't blame Izzy for that one. Hit or error, that should have been an out.

I like the Royals, too. It's always depressing for me to watch the Cards and Royals play since one of them has to lose. From a strictly pragmatic standpoint, wins for the Cardinals mean more than wins for the Royals since St. Louis is in the division race and leading the NL wild card race. But if they have to lose, better to lose to KC.

SPATCH 06-17-2008 08:50 PM

i wonder who will represent the royals in the all-star game.....

probably guillen. but i think soria should get it.

Sure-Oz 06-17-2008 08:51 PM

Nice to see a middle infield with some pop on the bat...

I hope we trade Grudz sometime so we can get Callaspo regular duty

keg in kc 06-17-2008 08:52 PM

Plenty of time for him to go south, starting hot after a call-up isn't unusual, but this is really begging the question of why Davies wasn't in the rotation coming out of spring training. Although he did say in an interview that he got a lot of work done in the minors, so I guess it's all good.

they said during the broadcast that he wasn't very good in ST...

davies himself admitted that he was too "amped up" during his starts last year and into ST..

they were attributing his new found success to having a sense of calm this time around

I think it's a good thing the Royals obviously haven't done enough of. It's not just something fans complain about, it seems like management even has been too quick in calling prospects up and almost bypassing AAA. The team needs the help, so why not... you hear it every spring from all angles.... except maybe guys like Gordon, Butler, Greinke, Teahen, would've been better served to actually spend half a season just beating up on AAA teams.

You think he's sticking around because of whos son he is?

Duncan has reclaimed more pitching for us from the MLB trash heep that maybe they figure that they owe Duncan's boy more of a shot?

What about your boy Izzy? He did a pretty good job out there tonight.

It seems be be working for Butler to the tune of batting .391 since he's been down. Should work for Gordon as well if he starts slumping again.

They likely won't send Gordon down because of his defense at 3b, he'll have to work the kinks out here.

i think it's time to bring butler back up. there is absolutely no reason why esteban german or tony pena jr. should be on the roster instead of him, with the way mike aviles is playing.

That was the thought last nite at Rookies as well.
Duncan is still here because of his dad.

Izzy, just doesn't have it anymore.
