Sanchez reminds me of Plunkett. Would rather Sanchez be here than at Oakland.

when I requested planet feedback on the subject, I wasn't necessarily asking who we should draft. (maybe i did but if I really wanted to here a bunch of stafford, sanchez, crabtree, etc I could reference any number of draft threads all over nfl boards)

Remeber when we drafted gonzales? in the teens, i believe? right off the bat he was HOF potential. If we had known a HOF TE he could have been a top 5. see where I'm going?
so, let me rephrase:
Is there a player who is a man amongst boys at their position who would be worth a number 3 pick?
Is there a position that is so rich with talent, for instance OG, a safety even, or... , that wouldn't normally draft at #3 but the dude is a can't miss?

Tony Gonzales didn't have HoF potential right off the bat.

His rookie season he had so many areas that he needed to improve on that he played behind Keith Cash.

His blocking was marginal at best, and his hands were very inconsistent.

In the end, I have three words for you.

Make that four.

Get a ****ing clue.

Crabtree is the same type reciever as Bowe.

We've all seen this line of thought. 1 speed guy. 1 possession guy.

Look at the Cards. They have the best WR tandom in the league and both guys are relatively the same.

What we just need are two really good guys starting. I don't care what type of WR they are.

And why does D-Bowe get the rap as a slower guy? The dude ran a 4.4 at the combine. That's fast! Blazing? No. But pretty fast.

Actually, he played behind Ted Popson.

That's right.

Thanks for the correction.

This team needs 1 of the QB's more than anything, a WR is an exception position in the top 5, these guys aren't the jaw droppers it requires to be a top 5 WR.

i can agree that this team doesnt need a wr in the top 5, but to say that crabtree isnt in the same league as fitzgerald at this point in their careers is a little crazy. most peopel have crabtree rated REAL high. walter foolball has crabtree at a 4.48 40 he's 6'3" 214. fitzgerald ran a 4.68 40 he's 6'3" 220, pretty similar right and their college #s are pretty similar also. on macklin he has a hard time getting up every time he's tackled in college so i dont think hes going to get better at that in the nfl

I'd take Percy Harvin over Jeremy Macklin in a heartbeat.

Hall of Fame type fat?
We are due to draft our next hall of famer.
Who is this draft class' future hall of famer? and can we get him with the 3rd pick?
If you say stafford, well, I say BS

Some pro football rumors guy who has a blog associated with the Houston Chronicle was on Petro's show a day or two ago. His last name starts with Z and his dad is an OL coach for the Steelers (in case it helps anyone figure out who I'm talking about). His description of this year's draft class was that it is extremely thin on elite talent across the board. He had trouble coming up with an answer for Petro's question about who the best player to come out of this draft would end up being. After a long pause, he reluctantly predicted that it would be Eugene Monroe, OT Virginia. He also said, earlier in the interview, that he thought the Chiefs should consider going OL and taking Andre Smith, OT Alabama, so I gather that he thinks OT is the best of what's available.

Fitz was at another level coming out of Pitt than Crabtree is right now coming out of Tech. Mecca is exactly right, this comparison is ridiculous and needs to stop. Crabtree is getting hype because he's coming out of an offense that heavily inflates offensive stats; if Crabtree played at a program like Pitt, no one would be talking about him as a top 5 pick.

Fitz had amazing ball skills and body control coming out of school, and was an extremely crisp route runner. The only knock on him was timed straight-away speed, and anyone that actually watched him play could see that wasn't a legit concern. On the other hand, Crabtree has spent the past two years primarily running bubble screens and slants, and is going to have to spend some time perfecting pro routes.

I don't want to knock the kid, as he is a solid WR prospect, but he's nowhere near the prospect Fitz was coming out of school.

typically, I'm used to seeing the Chiefs stuck in 'no-mans land' (picks 22-32 etc); now we have #3 and for some reason I suspect we're stuck in no-mans land again.

I'm not sold on Stafford (haven't seen enough; plan to check out combine video for a more educated opinion) at the moment.

And all th is 'trade down' talk...well, there needs to be a team willing to trade up. I'm not sure who that would be etc.

If someone is willing to move up, fine.

CHIEF4EVER 01-24-2009 04:16 PM

We need to draft the Best Player Available regardless of position. We may never see the #3 pick ever again and drafting that high you need to get the best possible players you can get regardless of what position they play.

Have you seen our schedule next year? Barring a miracle....we'll be in the top 10 again.

Assuming the schedule plays as difficult as it looks...

This team could improve greatly, a ****ing ton, and still win only 5 games next season.

And this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...

I disagree.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-24-2009 04:34 PM

Teams are so up and down every year that I don't think the tough schedule argument is very relevent. Teams you may think will be tough may suck and the "weaker" teams may be good. Who knows.
