I have a hard time believing that they're going to trade for Cassel, or worse yet, draft Stafford or Sanchez, and then ship Gonzales off to another team leaving the new QB with no reliable safety valve.

If they're going to trade Tony Gonzales (which is fine with me, BTW, in and of itself) they better damn well have a backup plan to get a TE in the draft.

This. Plus, IMO, it's MUCH less likely to get a player in the 3rd or 4th round who will be as productive in his entire career as TG will over the next 3-4 years.

I have not had a chance to read the whole thread yet, but this is from the Q&A with Haley from kcchiefs.com on the 17th of this month...

“The big thing that Scott (Pioli) and I are looking for, and we’re going to say this over and over again, we’re looking for guys that want to be here, not talk about it, but want to be a Kansas City Chief. That goes for guys on the roster and free agents. We’re looking for guys who want to be here.”

Maybe Tony should cry on Grandpa Dick's shoulder.

Pioli Zombie 03-25-2009 09:11 AM

If not a third, then get a 4th for 2009 and a 2nd in 2010.

And try to trade Waters.

ToxSocks 03-25-2009 09:23 AM

Im so sick of this shit. I'm a huge TG supporter and want him here, but this is getting old already. IM tired of hearing about it.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Contrary to remarks by Kansas City owner Clark Hunt, Tony Gonzalez wants to be traded if the right deal can be made, a person close to the Pro Bowl tight end told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Too bad. You're not going anywhere TG, so STFU and catch passes.

chiefs1111 03-25-2009 09:39 AM

Tony is just upset because his boy Thigpen isn't the starting QB anymore so he's not going to get the ball thrown to him 30 times a game

Waters' production is much easier to replace than Gonzo's, though. I don't have a problem with them letting either one go, as long as they have an adequate backup plan.

I'm old school and wanted him to go out as a Chief. Not getting a ring would be a downer on his stellar career, (don't see that as a first ballot deal breaker)

Cottam or other TE will have huge shoes to fill. we should be planning on that already. Let's not get Roafed.....

Not as big as you'd think.
The difference between a great TE and an average TE is not nearly as wide as the difference between a great OT and an average one.

You know, every year, it's the same crap with this guy. I love this guy's talent, but he is such a whiner. He has been treated phenomenally in KC by the fans, coaches and whoever else. He is, I guess, the greatest tight end ever. But I'm still old fashioned in thinking about team loyalty and franchise players. Most of the great players are "T.O.s" from what I can see. I don't really see how TG is much different. I think that he should shut up, thank the Chiefs and fans for paying him millions for years to catch the ball. It is a privilege to play in the Red Sea every other game. Send him away...We'll be fine.

KCBOSS1 03-25-2009 10:21 PM

Let him go to another team, and never go to the super bowl and sacrifice tons of respect chasing the elusive ring. I like him because he is a Chief and that is all.

wild1 03-25-2009 10:22 PM

i was on his side before, because i do understand his drive to win a championship and the leper organization he's played for hasn't been able to deliver it. i think it's his right to request a trade if he wants. it's the team's right not to do it. he understood that and still played hard like a professional should.

This is the new Chiefs era. Everyone should be on board or they should be overboard. If Gonzalez doesn't buy into what they are doing, maybe they should do what is best for both parties and flip him for a pick if they can get one.

tonyetony 03-25-2009 10:35 PM

If we're sniffing 500 in mid October I think Pioli will want to keep him, otherwise he might start considering a 3rd because there's no compensation for the retirement ceremony next year. If the right offer comes he'll be gone no matter what.

tonyetony 03-25-2009 10:37 PM

We just have to many needs for one offseason why create another gap now.
