Ouchers. :doh!: |
George Brett is completely in the wrong in all of this, but I still love him. The media guys who he called out should just shut their big yappers. It doesn't matter how right you are. Don't **** with the King of Kansas City.

Hillman is a ****ing clown, and of this there's no question. But for Brett, I'm sure it has pained him to see his once proud franchise become a ****ing joke. If he's a bit too sensitive to criticism of the organization, however accurate, he's earned that right. |
Personally, I don't care how many beers you've had. Anybody who lays down the hammer on that KK person, is okay by me. Of all the sports talk guys I've listened to - anywhere in the country - he is, by far, the worst.

He must remind me of some assclown I encountered in a former life, or something. Not only that, but his opinions often seem to be based on nothing more than a transparent and sometimes almost desperate effort to generate ratings - at least, that's how I sense it. When he and that Jack Harry guy are on the air together, I can literally feel the IQ points evacuating my brain and I have very few to begin with so avoiding that guy is self-preservation. Problem is, the other station in KC isn't anything to write home about. It's a shame, really, because I can have a difficult time getting Chiefs news and information here. FAX |

To me it came off as KK and Harry were just excited that George Brett mention their names. KK was so excited I thought he was going to pee himself.

That sounds like that KK person. FAX |

Way to leave out the "He was 15" in the original post. So, he's not a pussy, he's just a dumbass. Thanks for the clarification. |
No offense to your brother, but if you're going to walk up to a dude in a bar and say something like that you're looking to get popped in the mouth.

No. I have a Father-Son kickball game to go to at 11am this morning. My son's have their last day on Wednesday, and they basically get to screw off starting Monday of this week and then start their Summer vacation. Ahhh, to be a kid once more....... |

Wasn't george on roger twibells show this morning at 7am?
I didn't catch it but i think they usually chat tues mornings, curious how that went since he mentioned roger. |
If an adult man is playing golf, as an amateur, it's a pretty safe bet that he's had a few cold ones. On some courses, in fact, it's a rule.

Somebody call 810, toast the screener, and when you get on the air launch in to "George was right, right, right, right, right"!!!!
Syradouche is threatening to have a melt down if he has to hear ANY listener say that George was right, so seize the day Planet, and let's make this happen! |
I really don't see what the big deal is.
A former athlete opens mouth and inserts foot.
Every morning the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. So? |

Although I disagree with GB's sentiments regarding Hillman - I do agree that not listening to any of those effing dorks is the way to go. |
George can say whatever he wants. He's earned that latitude with me. Championship players get that.
Hillman does not. |

You know, the best thing your brother could have done is let George pound the crap out of him for a few minutes, Mr. bringbackmarty. Bruises heal and pain subsides, but 2 million in a conservative money market fund grows 24/7.

Brett on with KK now.
|
(paraphrasing) Brett: Jack not very fair to him (Hillman) the few times I've seen his program, which I try not to do.
...when a guy says when Carl Peterson was fired that this is the greatest day in Chiefs history, he has a personal vendetta... I know he has a long run in with the Chiefs organization. I don't know people in the Royals organization that even know him because he's never out there. |
Strange allusion to the Chiefs. Remember that Carl and George are buds.
|
I love that George is still passionate about the Royals. I love that people are passionate about the Royals again. He owned up to his poor choice of words and jumping at the reporter who asked him the question.

He also emphasized that Harry had an axe to grind. ***Which he did. (He and Fortune were moved from the front of press row to the back when they pulled the Okoye story out of their collective asses) **** This is no way to be deemed a defense of CP. |

IMO if George Brett really wants to help Trey and Dayton out, he needs to tell both men what went in KC in the summer/fall of 1990 re Jack Harry. They need to know what Harry is capable of doing. |
Without reading through all of this, just want to report what I heard Brett say on 810 today talking to KK. He apologized for cussing, and stood by the remarks otherwise. Clearly was feeling bad about the whole thing. I could sense he felt he had spoiled an otherwise spotless reputation.
Keitzman was cool to him. Actually said (paraphrased), "you're George Brett! People in this town love you. If you were a classic car, this wouldn't equate to even a grocery store cart dent in your side!" Brett said he wished he had been allowed a do-over before it was aired on T.V., and asked Keitzman if that's ever allowed by media. Keitzman's response: "Some guys will allow a do-over, but Jack Harry isn't one of them." Brett ended by saying he has always worn his emotions on his sleeve, and obviously still has a high level of passion for the Royals' organization. |
Quote:
That said, Harry never let it go nor did CP. So both of them are to blame in many ways. |

I don't think I've ever really gotten the fully story. |

You knew it was inevitable. Whitlock chimes in and pounds on Harry, Keitzman and Twibell.
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/col...y/1206870.html I love to cuss. Four-letter words roll off my tongue the way a basketball slipped off George Gervin’s fingertips inches from the rim. So even miles away while on vacation, George Brett’s F-bomb rampage tickled my ears and caught my attention. Please allow me to translate what the Hall of Fame third baseman truly meant when he called out Kevin Kietzman, Jack Harry, Roger Twibell and Dave Stewart for their criticism of Royals manager Trey Hillman. People who are offended by swearing rarely understand the true meaning of a profanity-laced tirade. I don’t have this problem. Having grown up inside my dad’s neighborhood tavern, I learned at a young age that there are at least eight different ways to use the word motherF-bomb, and really only two of the eight uses are pejorative. (You can e-mail me if you want to know the eight different ways to use it.) My point is, I know exactly what Brett was trying to say Monday at the Joe McGuff charity golf event. The key to translating a profanity-laced meltdown is to avoid focusing on what is said and pay careful attention to what isn’t said. George Brett didn’t mention these three names — Joe Posnanski, Soren Petro and Danny Clinkscale. JoPo, Petro and Clinkscale have all been critical of Trey Hillman. Petro, who hosts a radio show on 810 WHB-AM, is arguably Hillman’s toughest critic. Clinkscale, Kietzman’s sidekick on WHB, regularly questions Hillman’s moves. And Posnanski, my colleague at The Star, has written a couple of columns this year tearing into Hillman. Why were they left out of Brett’s rant? I’d argue it’s because they’re highly informed about the Royals, attend numerous games, frequent the clubhouse and attempt to ascertain both sides of the story. They’re fair, and their criticism is authentic. Kietzman, Harry and Twibell are clueless, and much of their conversation about the Royals comes from a very dishonest, self-serving place. It’s an attempt to grab ratings. Even with the benefit of a map, compass, a pack of hunting dogs and GPS, Kietzman, Harry and Twibell couldn’t locate the locker-room facilities at Arrowhead Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State or Pembroke Hill High School. They criticize from the safest distance possible. And they hit the airwaves and feign an insider’s knowledge. Honestly, I find it all rather amusing. But I can see why it would eventually bother someone like George Brett. The guy loves the Royals. The team is just beginning to show signs of real life. And Harry and Twibell grasp for relevancy by playing an insincere and cowardly game with Hillman’s every decision. It’s not really a game with Kietzman. It’s who he is. Kietzman had Brett on the air Tuesday and, among other things, made a ridiculous analogy comparing Hillman’s task to what Kietzman’s high school “manager” faced leading Shawnee Mission Midwest to the 1972 Big School Championship. Brett, to his credit, did not laugh out loud. Kietzman finished his brown-nosing session by explaining that he just couldn’t figure out why the rest of the media don’t like good old Trey Hillman. Brett — and I suspect Hillman, Dayton Moore and everyone else within the Royals’ organization — is OK with Hillman being ripped and grilled. Brett would just prefer that Hillman’s most vocal critics be the journalists/broadcasters who spend time at the ballpark confronting Hillman face to face. I give Brett credit for taking the time Tuesday to conduct interviews with Twibell and Kietzman. Brett refused to back down. He apologized for his profanity but stood by his message. He’s too polite to properly translate, so I’ll summarize: 1. Harry is way past his prime with terrible TV ratings. 2. Kietzman is a talented but disingenuous opportunist. 3. Twibell is hoping he can fool Entercom into supporting his golf habit for another year. |
