I understand what you mean, worked a a Paramedic in KC and surrounding areas for 13+ years. Been in management ever since for the most part, and job is not stress anymore. Fact is what most people stress over I tend to find amusing :D |

I have a hands on job which is really satisfying......for my livestock
Pros.... I get to watch the n00bs chase the boar snake for the first time. Cons..... Sometimes I have to wipe boar jizz out of my eyes. |

Mine is a double edged sword. I love the job as I generally work alone and get a lot of peace and quiet. At the same time, I am tired of the hours being on third shift. Because of the hours I am now on sleeping pills and prilosec. I honestly think that if I was working normal hours I wouldn't need either drug. But, at the same time, I would not have the peace and quiet either.

I'm currently a server at Village Inn, (I'm only seventeen.)
Pros- -I usually work the night shift, (5-11, or 3-9, depending on the day.) This works quite well with my summer sleeping pattern, seeing that I'm usually up quite late. -It's a great place for a first job, I am developing person-person skills which will be vital to me when I grow older. -I have a lot of regular customers, many of whom treat me quite well and leave respectable tips. -I also get along with a large amount of my co-workers and have three understanding managers. -I love having money in my pocket at the end of every night. -And I love crossing the paths of a large amount of unique people each and every day, all of which have a very interesting story of their own. I am amazed at all the different stories/backgrounds every customer/employee has at a restaurant at a given time, and how each of our paths are crossed for a small portion of time. Cons- -I get my fair share of assholes, and people who usually do not realize that I'm currently serving four other tables as well as their own. -It's about a 26 mile drive there and back, and with my truck only getting about 13 mpg, gas has been a killer. -I have to do about an hour-hour and a half of side-work after I'm cut from the floor, what sucks about this is that I'm paid $2.13 an hour during this time with no chance to receive tips to make up the difference. This means that overall I'm paid less per hour. (For example, if I make 48 dollars in tips over six hours, that's eight dollars an hour, but if I add that hour of side work, I'm making under minimum wage. I know they have to make up the difference, but the hour of side work eliminates almost any chance I have to make above minimum wage.) -The work can be tough, and I feel many customers do not appreciate just how much a server has to do. After being here for a few months, let me tell you, it makes my whole night when a customer is understanding after a small mistake, leaves a generous tip after a good meal, or has a polite attitude throughout their meal. -This last part is both a pro and a con, and that is that the money I make in one day really fluctuates, some days I might be driving home with fifty dollars in my pocket, and other days I may not even have twenty. |
I'm a Pit Boss in a casino.
Pros: I like the people I work with, and there are a lot of departments that I've worked in and can work in. I play games for a living (well, watch others play). People watching at a casino is its own form of entertainment Cons: I don't get any holidays or weekends off, and at times I work grave shift. Our clientele may be the whiniest, unhappiest people on the planet. Not all, but too many. Many rules and regulations to follow with little to no gray area. Not a lot of room for mistakes. |
I'm starting a new job on Monday, so I'll update on my likes/dislikes about it then.

I've only been here 4 weeks and the 6PM to 6AM 12 hour shifts 4 days a week are getting pretty F***ing old. My biological clock is completely screwed right now.
|
I love my job. I provide electricity to the masses. I also work 12 hour shifts. We work what is known as a "Dupont Schedule" Since we are rotating shifts I do have to work some nights, weekends and holidays which sucks sometimes. But every 4 weeks I get 7 days off in a row.
I can't imagine what it would be like to get off only on Saturday and Sunday. One of the great things about our shift schedule is being off in the middle of the week. A lot the things I like to do I can do on a weekday when everyone else is at work. Things like Golf, Skiing, and Christmas shopping are so much easier on a Tues or Wed. Pros: Great pay and benefits, Schedule allows me to do much more with my off time. I really love my job. Cons: Some of the dumbasses I work with. (Pretty common I bet), Working nights, weekends and Holidays sucks sometimes. Schedule does prevent doing things like joining a Trap League or Softball team. |

Still painting and such? Related field? Good luck tou you, Bug. |
I love the job I have right now. It's the second best job I have ever had and for this period in my life it's nearly perfect.
My official job Title is: Guest Experience Champion ( GEC ), in layman's terms I'm the Concierge. The company I work for owns 5 different hotels/guest ranches in Wyoming. The property I work at has 349 rooms on site. 189 in the actual Hotel I'm at, 92 cabins next door and 68 rooms in an adjoining hotel. We are the largest property in Cody, and the second largest in the state. It's a really cool gig, as I'm one of the Sr Department managers, directly under the GM/Owner. But unlike the other managers ( Food & Beverage, maintenance ect..) my staff is only 2-6 other employees. So I don't have to deal wit of the petty employee issues that they do. Yet have all the benefits that go with the position. Basically my job is to take care of the guests and VIP's in particular. I handle all guest complaints, problems and requests. I get to meet a lot of really cool & Interesting people and the occasional famous one also. The pay is really good and above average for the area. The people I work for are the best employers I have ever had. I get to dress nice, suit & tie, everyday and have to do very little if any actual physical work. I spend 90% of my work day just walking around hanging out and talking to people. the other 10% of the time I spend either at my desk doing paperwork, research ect and a very small amount of time actually having to deal with problems. We have such a great staff that the majority of problems I do deal with are simply people that are going to me unhappy no matter what...lol The only really suck part of the job is the hours I work. During the busy tourist season, May through Sept, I work split shifts everyday. This means I go in at 5:30 am till 10am, then come back and work 4pm to 9-11pm. I average about 50hrs a week with some weeks hitting 60hours if we are really busy. But other than that I can't complain at all about it. And really the only reason the hours are a pain is because I'm a single dad and babysitting is sometimes hard to find with those hours. The only other job I have ever had that was better was when I worked as a Paramedic, and the hours there were even worse. |
I switched careers 6 years ago. I spent 20 years working on cars and now I teach automotives.
Pros; Not dealing with customers Not working in the heat/cold No long hours Not having to deal with flat rate pay Benefits Time off Less demanding on my body Get paid to talk about cars Cons; Dealing with students that know more than I Dealing with administrators that have no idea how shops work Advancement is limited 4 days working 11 to 15 hours each Pay is so so |
FWIW, I did end up making the change. I work about 10,000 times harder, but I don't hate life at the end of the day.
Posted via Mobile Device |
I work as a janitor type guy at a community center at night, and a playing card sorter during the day.
Both jobs suck, I get few days off, overtime is a bitch, but the money is coming in and that's what matters. |

Detasseler:
Pro: A very nice bonus at the end of the season Only lasts about 3 weeks Good workout Meet new kids who you can yell at for missing tassels Some days you get out at about 11:00AM and you have the whole day to yourself Con: Wet mornings are absolutely horrible Some days last til 4PM Waking up at 4AM can be rough Student: Pro: Setting my own hours Very enjoyable to learn so many things Sitting in class and listening is pretty easy Meeting cool people Con: Some nights are pretty intense, if there is a big test the next day or a paper due Some professors and people are annoying Can get a little repetitive in ways |
Software support:
Pros: Learn something new almost every day Pays pretty well Will hopefully be working from home in about 6-8 weeks Been with company for almost 12 years, so I have four weeks of vacation per year Talking to people Cons: Insufficient training Company no longer selling software I support Not sure how much longer I will have my job Talking to people |

Elections Coordinator:
Pros: Pays well. Inbetween elections I have a lot of down time. This is good if I want to take trips or just take a day or two off. The actual work isn't that hard and most of it is pretty interesting. During normal times I work M-F/8-5. Cons: The Voters. Voters are the whiniest, bitchiest ****ing people I've ever worked for. There are a couple of employees that I can't stand. One of those people....is who I'm in charge of. Election day hours suck. 6 am until roughly 2 am the next day. |
This is easy. My pros and cons are one and the same: other people.
|
Grading papers and inconsiderate ****s who use cell phones during class.
|
Pro:
Absolutely what i was meant to do I'm good at it Con: No jobs, so I'm not actually doing it, yet |
Operations Excellence is my title but it just means efficiency and quality.
Pros- As long as there are manufacturing or transactional processes I will have opportunity for employment I have professional certifications that are sought after I can actually say i make the company money Save peoples jobs at times by making the company more efficient Mentally challenging Cons- Physically sedentary most days Lots and lots of statistics Kind of boring at times Can cost peoples jobs by eliminating parts of a process. |
Position: Auto Claim Rep
PRO'S - I like the people I work with, supervisors and co-workers are nice, fun to be around - Advancement will be available soon once the boomers start to retire - VERY close to home, a lot of times if its nice I'll walk to work. - good pay/benefits/job security CON's - I deal w/ people in Louisiana, which means at least 75% of them can't read, are crooks, and have no Idea what it means to be self-reliant. You saw all of the turds that came out of the wood work during Katrina? Those are the types of people I deal w/ on a daily basis. You tell them shit, and it goes into one ear and out the other. Everyone gets a ****in attorney and it just delays the process further and people don't understand that. VERY annoying. - As much as I like mgmt at my job, they sure do micro-manage a lot. At times its gets annoying. It's a call-center type job, so results/job critique are based on the #'s you generate...to a point. They also almost "demand" working overtime, even though it's considered "voluntary" it "looks bad if you don't", kinda thing. This is probably what I hate the most. |
Position: Radiologic Technologist
Pros: Great pay, satisfaction of helping people in dire need. Cons: 1) Watching people die. 2) So many people have lost or are losing their health insurance that they cannot afford to see a doctor when they need one. They often wait until it's too late, end up in the emergency room, and perish. |
Work in the Nursing Home industry. As Maintenance Supervisor.
Pros: Coma and Go as I please. No staff to be hassled about. Little to do on a day to day basis Cons: Little to do on a day to day basis Boring and makes days long Depressing around very old and debilitated people Pay stinks, but cheap to live here on one of the states biggest lakes, so good fishing, boating ect. |
I'm a Software Developer for a large law firm in KC.
Pros: Great co-workers. Great benefits. Chances to work with all kinds of new technology. We pretty much get to take whatever training we want if it will help in our jobs. Vendors man, vendors. Gotta love free Royals tickets and free rounds of golf. Cons: The downtown commute from the suburbs. Needy and demanding users. So many separate projects, sometimes it's easy to get bogged down. |
