And what FAX said about meetings being different is true as well, I'm around enough AA people to have heard them talk about not liking the meetings at X while liking the over at Y better.

Good luck man.

not sure, FDE. I'm depressed, most likely, but you're right, it's self-medicating, is what it is. :(

SR..you've helped me, i'll help you. If you attend the meeting like some have requested great. Heres my opinion. Some may tell you to have the willpower and man up and not drink again. Now I don't know what times of the day you drink, (in the morning, night, after work, perhaps you can enlighten us?) You can't just cut it all out at once most likely... it may sound attainable sitting here reading this thread, but addictions don't work like that. Start by cutting back don't drink during one period of the day but tell yourself you can drink later. Then after a week of that turn it into every other day, you can't have beer today but you can always have it tomorrow. And build your way up. Yes this method still takes extreme determination and willpower and I know you feel guilty as hell every time you drink one. No you is forcing you to drink SR it's up to you.

SR

I usually just troll on these boards because I post from work, but what Fax said is dead on. Anyone that thinks they can beat it on their own is kidding themselves. Drink a bottle of castor oil and see how long your will power will keep you from heading to the john. A Real Alcholoic can never take that first drink. AA is a proven method, does it work everytime? No. It only works if you work it hard. Go to 90 meetings in 90 days, buy a Big Book and read on it at night. When the time is right you can start working the steps. You probably already have done step 1- Admitted you were powerless over alchol and your life had become unmanageable. Other than Fax's suggestion the only thing I might add is if you are suffering physically from alchol, such as DT's, etc. you probably should go to a detox center(NOT HOSP.). A person needs to get the fog out before soaking in the meetings, but once you are out and feeling good get your ass to a meeting and never forget what it was like when you hit your rock bottom (last spree) or you will repeat.

You have my number. If you're falling off the wagon, call. Alcohol abuse is a beast that humans are not equipped to handle by themselves and that's fine. Some of us can drink without abusing it and that's fine too.

You'll probably need to find a new circle of friends. Meetings can help build those relationships with like-minded people. Let me know if I can do something besides offering you prayers.

I knew a guy who was an alcoholic. He also had a rich daddy. Daddy bought him 3 KFC's thinking they would keep him busy and he wouldn't drink. Didn't work so he went to AA meetings. He met a bunch of new friends and they would call each other when they got tempted to drink. They usually ended up getting drunk together. All he got out of it was new drinking buddies.

You still might want to consider a detox center. Most people don't have DT's and I can only imagine how bad that would be. Anyway a detox center can only be as little as 3 days and get you back to square 1. Gotta Go I'll check back tommorrow. GO TO A MEETING TONIGHT ANYWAY. you may not need any detox, only you know.

Hey SR sorry to hear this man. if i were you i would take mr. faxy's advice. and IMO you need to find something, anything to take the place of alcohol. you know something that when you get the urge to drink you can throw yourself into and take your mind off of it.

I feel your pain man. God do I ever feel your pain. I Started drinking everyday when I was about 18 now I'm 27 and can't kick it for anything. I have a great wife and a beautiful 2 yr old son, and I still can't quit, even for them. Now my liver hurts like hell everyday, and I still can't quit. I'm considering meetings myself. I will keep you in my prayers.
