Kyle Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams to the Lions (most likely). Throw in Ndamukong Suh and their D-Line might actually be pretty damn good.

Not official, but

Lions coach Jim Schwartz was reportedly in free agent Kyle Vanden Bosch's house just after midnight for a recruiting visit.
Vanden Bosch was expected to draw interest from other teams, but his former defensive coordinator has been the favorite to sign him all along. Expect Schwartz to walk out of KVB's house with an agreement, as the Lions look to re-tool their defensive line.

and

The Detroit Free Press confirms that DL Corey Williams is already in Motown, and will undergo a physical for the Lions on Friday.
The physical will complete a trade sending the Browns a "fifth- or sixth-round draft pick" in exchange for the pass rusher. The Lions would also be assuming quite a bit of salary. Williams is due roughly $6 million in 2010.

Lions making some moves:

Scout.com's Adam Caplan reports that the Lions have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Nate Burleson. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the deal will be for five seasons.
The Lions shouldn't be done upgrading their WR corps after this, but we like the move if Caplan's report is true. Detroit has been needy at the No. 2 wideout spot since Calvin Johnson emerged as an All-Pro caliber talent in 2008. Last year, Johnson was dogged by double teams. Burleson won't draw safeties away from Johnson, but he at least can make plays down the field and is more efficient than Dennis Northcutt or 2009 free agent bust Bryant Johnson.

I was hoping the Chiefs would make a run for him...

Dansby

I guess there is a hope that he makes it to KC and we have a chance to convince him to stay. "Nothing says 'fit' like 'finances' " Can you say Edgerton Hartwell and Hugh Douglas part Trois!

Quote:

Dansby says he'll visit "every team"

Posted by Mike Florio on March 5, 2010 9:06 AM ET
Though free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby's first trip will be to Miami, he's also keeping watch on the Redskins. And everyone else.

"Washington is definitely a place I'm looking at," Dansby told Jason Reid of the Washington Post. "My gate is wide open right now. I'm going to take every visit. I'm going in to every team to see what type of piece of the puzzle I will be."

Possible translation? "No one is willing to pay me what I want."

"I do my homework, man," Dansby said. "Any team that wants me to visit, I do homework on 'em. I have to know how would I fit in."

Right, but nothing says "fit" like "finances." The more money a guy is offered about that which he thinks he's worth, the more loved he feels, the better fit he senses.

Dansby has earned franchise money each of the past two years. As a result, he likely thinks/hopes he'll be averaging $9 million or more per season on a long-term deal. Thus, we think he needs to come to grips with the fact that his W-2 will be showing a much lower average number going forward.

Lets take Burleson for example, and this is just an example. He gets calls from 3 different teams all saying we are willing to pay. He makes up his mind that he's going to visit all three: Detroit, KC, and Chicago. Logistically he decides to go from Detroit to KC then onto Chicago.

He gets to Detroit, they want him. They tell him they'll give him 5 years for $25 million with $11 million guaranteed. They also tell him that if he leaves town for other visits the deal is off the table. Take it or leave it. He will take it every time. Thus, KC was interested but never got a chance.

Unfortunately that's not how it works. I have a buddy who is an agent in the NFL, and has told me numerous times that he and his players know before the visit what teams are willing to pay. There isn't a team in the league that says, "here's your offer, take it or leave it."

Yeeaah.. It sounded much better in my head than it does reading it back now. Kirwan was using this example on Neil Rackers to Washington yesterday and it made sense. The difference was he was saying they would make him the highest paid kicker. This is probably another reason he's on the radio and not in a front office.

Walter Drawing Solid Interest
Free-agent WR Kevin Walter (Houston Texans) is receiving solid interest so far at the start of free agency, a league source told FoxSports.com.

Walter is being recruited by the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and Kansas City Chiefs. The Texans are also trying to get him re-signed.

Walter signed as a restricted free agent with Houston back in March of 2006. The Cincinnati Bengals, who he played from 2003-2006, declined to match Houston's offer sheet.

Walter, who turns 29 in August, has posted 195 receptions over the past four seasons to go along with 2,470 yards, and 14 TDs. His best season as a professional came in 2008 when he posted 60 receptions for a career-high 899 yards, to go along with 8 TDs, and a career-high 15.1 yards per catch.

Walter is known in league circles as a solid possession receiver who has good hands and runs well after the catch.

I could see it that he signs here and since the Chiefs hired Weiss as OC, I think signing a guy like Kevin Faulk would be more of a definate possibility. Two reasons a) He wouldn't be an expensive player b) the organization highly stresses the importance of chemistry between the players and the coaches so therefore Faulk is familiar with the system that Chiefs are try'n to run under Weiss, and knows his role in the offense. A move like this would make sense from an organizational point of view.

However, from a fans perspective I think it would be better to just draft a RB this year. The class is so deep that I think the Chiefs could find a guy in the mid to later rounds that could do the same job KF could do. I also think its important to sustain youth at that position rather than rely on old veterans.

Report: Peppers taking physical, deal is "imminent"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2010 1:57 PM ET
After hearing Julius Peppers' agent's statements last night, it was only a matter of time before the prize of this free agent crop signed with the Bears.

The time is near.

Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Peppers is taking a physical in Chicago and a signing is imminent.

The only question left is how much money Peppers will earn. Hayes hears that Peppers will earn $12-14 million-per-year over six years, which is actually less than we imagined.

It's all about the structure. We'd be surprised if Peppers doesn't get the most guaranteed money for a defender in league history.

Bears will be very solid next year. All they need is a premier WR and some pieces on the O-line and they're set.

They'll split carries. Forte's value goes down big time. This mostly takes away from Forte's receiving value because Taylor is a pretty good receiving back too. In his limited role in Minn. he only had 13 less receptions than Forte.
