Yes, but in most civilized places they don't play corrnhusker games over the grocery store PA, which they do in Nebraska. They didn't do it in New Orleans for LSU games, KC for chiefs games, or in Tucson for U of A games.

I was thoroughly disgusted when I was watching the news in Omaha, after Nebraska crushed some non conference opponent 52-17, and the news casters were saying "Oh, Nebraska has to play better if they want to win the national championship".

So yeah, Nebraska fans give even Dallas Cowboy fans a run for the "most obnoxious sports fanbase"title.

That type of thing is a rarity now. Even though the program is starting to turn itself around.

Oh sure, it was like that in the 90s and I found it equally annoying when people who hated NU just a few years earlier were all of a sudden diehard fans. But that shit happens to any fanbase when their teams win multiple championships, all of a sudden everyone is on the bandwagon.

As far as the games being on the PA in grocery stores, I don't see what the big deal is with it nor did I know it was unusual. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'll find grocery stores in other parts of the country where they do the same thing. Just because they don't do it where you're from doesn't mean they don't do it anywhere else.

And Johnny, you reek of a KU or MU fan that is still butthurt from four decades of having your shit pushed in every year, so which one is it?

Gonzo 03-23-2010 01:26 PM

Honestly, I've been all over the country and this is the only place I've been where they did that. But I absolutely understand the bandwagon bullshit. It was pretty thick when I lived in wichita and K-state was suddenly competitive.

What's wrong with saying a team needs to play better to win a title?

No shit, if he's a KU fan then he should know exactly what that means.

I have no idea what part of town you'll be working in but if it's going to be downtown or midtown you're going to have a rough commute. Do you have any idea where your prospective employer is located?

It will be just down the road form the University of Nebraska Omaha

Neither. I went to Tulane in New Orleans, so I wasn't a fan of any midwest college FB team.

Of course, since Tulane football traditionally sucks, we looked at football games as cocktail parties.

I think why I despised Omaha, is its really not a good place to be a student. And, it was an especially acute culture shock after I spent 4 years in New Orleans and a semester at Oxford.

It's pretty obnoxious when you've just crushed someone 52-17 (not sure that's the exact score), and you're sitting there saying "oh, we played bad. How terrible."

And, you can hardly tell anything about your team in a mismatch like that. Its called being a bad winner, and I find it very telling that you can't recognize it as boorish behavior.

Ah, that actually won't be all that bad coming from Papillion, that's a straight shot down 72nd street. Still quite a few traffic lights along the way though.

Oh, well I am so sorry we weren't good enough for you. But the way I look at it the less pretentious a-holes we have around here the better, so I'm glad you left and please don't bother to ever come back here.

Oh JFC, you're basing your opinion of an entire fanbase over what one local news hack said? I think I'm done with you.

Not even close, should be about a 15-20 minute drive most times, maybe 20-25 during rush hour.

Of course not. I was in Nebraska for about a year and a half, but that anecdote captures what I found obnoxious about the rabid Nebraska fanbase. People there PRESUMED that everyone present just LOVED the Huskers.

And, its not a matter of "not being good enough,", mostly it was a lot of the attitudes I ran into there. There were many fun people that I knew in Nebraska, but also a lot of obnoxious idiots: like the fundamentalist christians who used to knock on my door trying to bring me to God about twice a month b/c I was the TA for an evolution course.

Wow welcome aboard you fit in nicely with most on Chiefsplanet.

This looks like a done deal and I should be heading to Omaha this summer. Does anyone know of a good site to find a house to rent?

You can check here:
