Great. Listening to the game I hear the stupid unmistakable sounds of a crowd doing the wave. Over and over again, never getting tired of it.

alnorth 06-15-2010 07:51 PM

3rd inning in triple-A, Kila is having a typical game for him so far. no official at-bats, 2 walks, 1 run scored.

alnorth 06-15-2010 07:54 PM

game over in Advanced A and AA. Hosmer didn't do well, Mike and Mike did OK.

alnorth 06-15-2010 08:03 PM

not certain, but I think all runs in this inning will still be earned. Even though catcher's interference is an error, I dont think it is a presumed out.

any ideas on this before we hear from the scorer? Is it just a 1-base error to Guillen like I'm thinking (so still all earned given the hits later) or do we presume Guillen should be an out?

All 7 runs (so far) were scored with no men on, 2 outs. Without that interference, we probably are still losing by 3 runs.

al, from now on you need to include Blaine Hardy in the futures or minor league players to watch. He's doing it again in Omaha after being promoted in late May.

IP 11 K's 10 BB 1 ER 0.

alnorth 06-15-2010 08:25 PM

Found it, Guillen's run is unearned, but everyone after him is still earned. A very obscure scoring rule applies to this game. This is the only situation I know of where a batter-runner reaching on an error can later score an unearned run with 2 outs, but it has no impact on determining if other runs are unearned.

Quote:

A runner who reaches on catcher's interference and subsequently scores with two outs scores an unearned run, but baserunners who subsequently score after the runner who has reached on catcher's interference exclusively on clean plays score earned runs; the baserunner cannot be assumed to have been put out except for the error. (Rule 10.16(4)).
I guess that means if there was 1 out, everything would have been earned? Weird.

thought about it when I saw his ERA earlier today, but when I looked up his minor league career I saw he blew up just this year with limited IP. Figured I'd wait.

Oh, and holy crap Gordon and Kila are walk machines. 3 walks each so far in the 5th inning.

Yep...good thing for the HR....what a night by kila and alex 7 walks between them

alnorth 06-15-2010 10:43 PM

...and we give it right back and then some by walking home the lead run.

I doubt Mike gets another at-bat in the 9th. I won't bother staying up to watch just to update his line.

edit: wait a sec, they are calling this game over in the 8th inning? What, do they have a midnight curfew or something?

Kraus 06-15-2010 10:44 PM

Man, this seems like a different Royals team under Yost. When they went down 6-3 I thought we were done for. Hillman's Royals would have just crumbled.

They have respect for their manager, that is a big key. i like Yost so far, except that he bats kendall 2nd and plays him a ton.

Chiefspants 06-15-2010 10:47 PM

20 hits tonight, 16 of those were singles.

Somewhere, perhaps inside a barn within a rustic setting, Trey Hillman is lubing up his palm.

I think managers are quite a bit overrated, but even with that caveat, I disagree with very little of what Yost is doing other than his obsession with Kendall. (or is it the organization? What kind of blackmail photos does he have of DM?)

This team will still lose until the minor league talent comes up in a couple years, but its still nice to not have an idiot manager.

It is crazy how much difference a decent MLB manager actually makes. I don't blame Yost too much for Kendall, he doesn't have a whole lot to work with right now. I don't expect them to compete yet, but at least they are enjoyable to watch most nights.

It's good to see they won, its hard to score runs on a ton of singles

throw in 4 walks and 3 errors and anything is possible. Also a couple very rare calls: a batter's interference and a catcher's interference, both breaking our way.

Also 1 passed ball, 4 or 5 wild pitches (including back-to-back to score billy butler of all people from second), all of them in our favor

Kraus 06-15-2010 10:55 PM

I actually started playing my MLB10:The Show franchise... apparently I can't fire Hillman. :doh!:
