You should honestly consider getting a room there. Pretty sure that I am, and I'm waiting to hear back from Tiny - he may split the room with me. If he doesn't, Flopnuts may want to.

It's a perfect location to be waking up Monday morning/afternoon. Less than 10 minutes from Arrowhead.

I'm looking into getting a room there. I'm just trying to find some place that's equal distance between Arrowhead and the airport.

See above. The more the merrier. I'm sure Flop and I will spend some significant time there since we're playing poker. Typically not the type of thing you only do for an hour or two.

Ok, I'll have to think about it. I need more time to know what my money situation is. My unemployment runs out around the same time I fly out there, unless I get some kind of extension.

Honestly, that's a pretty good spot. Maybe a 20 minute drive to MCI.

I just figure if I'm already going to drive down there to play on Sunday, it's a waste of time to drive back up to STJ just to drive back down Monday.

Plus, it's easy access to Arrowhead, and will be an easy drive after the game on Monday. You should see if someone will split a room with you.

Understandable.

I'm sure we won't make any solid plans for a while anyway.

(though I think I'm going to book my room soon, and hope someone wants to split it - don't want rates to skyrocket)

It's actually not that bad.

I can get my plane tickets, hotel room and rental car for around $700.

You're talking about the Argosy hotel....right?

No. Ameristar.

Argosy doesn't have a poker room, and is much farther away.

Just checked.....with plane tickets, hotel and a rental car.......it comes out to $634.03. That's staying at Ameristar too.

Bowser 07-21-2010 11:01 AM

I have no idea, but anyone looking to get rooms at Ameristar should probably book them sooner rather than later, as I believe they fill pretty quickly on an everyday weekend, much less a weekend of opening night Monday night football.

I live literally 5 minutes from Ameristar. Flopnuts, OTWP, Pest, Buck, maybe Adam, who knows who else...... Holy Christ, this could get ugly. :)

Check. I might just order them right now. The hotel rooms are going to cost me $240 for the two nights. Not bad considering it's in the middle of where I want to be....and it's a Casino.

From Ameristar, you're closer to Arrowhead than the airport, but it's no sweat making the trek to the airport from there. You actually have a couple of different routes you can take and be there in the 20-25 minute range.....

Yeah, I ****ed up by not booking a month ago when rooms were $89 for Sunday and Monday.

Now it's like $130 per.

They are charging $250 for Friday and Saturday.

The Franchise 07-21-2010 11:05 AM

Oh....and the $240 for the two nights is through Hotels.com if anyone wants to know. If you try and book through the actual Ameristar website.....it's going to cost you over $300 for the two nights.

Yeah, it's bullshit, but that's their money nights. It's worse for the one in St. Louis - we checked for a weekend, and according to the wife, it was 200+ a night. Hopefully, she got her facts messed up somehow with that figure. Still, sounds like you snagged an OK to decent deal....

Ameristar is probably the best casino KC has to offer, really. Argosy is super nice, but smallish (and I have NEVER walked out of that place with winnings. Nev-uh), Harrah's is OK, but smaller than Argosy, and Isle of Capri is, well, I couldn't tell you, other than really small. Plus as mentioned, Ameristar makes their own beers that I for one really dig. And, that's not mentioning the assorted restaurants they have. Nothing super fancy, but good. I do recommend the steakhouse (whose name escapes me at the moment). You will enjoy it.

Oh, and there is an Arthur Bryants there for your BBQ fix, if you so desire....

How are the rooms? They didn't really have a whole lot of pictures to look at.

And I'm not really a gambling type of person. I'll throw a little bit of money down but I'm not a huge gambler.

They're nice. That's one area Argosy destroys Ameristar - their rooms are fantastic. But Ameristar's are just fine - stocked fridge, big shower, big TV, comfortable beds....

And I'm with you when it comes to the gambling. I'm a blackjack and a craps guy, and a fledgling n00b when it comes to poker. I'll throw a little change down, but I'm not going to watch the next three months worth of mortgage go bye bye. We can drink beers and heckle Flopnuts and Warpath as they get wiped out by some 19 year old chick on the tables. :D

It's been 3 years since I've stayed there, but they were pretty nice.

Plasma TV's, comfortable beds, clean, relatively quiet.

Bowser 07-21-2010 11:28 AM

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing.

I was in town visiting a friend the weekend before I had knee surgery in May, and stopped by there. Wasn't impressed.

Never been to Oklahoma Joes, and keep hearing people here mention it. I may have to take a side trip.

Not me.

I have a tailgate to go to, and I'm pretty sure Tiny, Clayton, Pest, Flop, Buck etc. are invited.

But if someone plans an "official" CP tailgate and they want to do that instead, fine by me. I'll be at my normal place.

There will be plenty of time, so I plan on attending both. I just won't be spending all of my time at the CP tailgate, so I didn't want to take on the responsibility just to bail.

I'm leaning towards not going, and just getting to Arrowhead early. That way I can sleep in, and still have part of my day free to do something else.

I need to talk to the folks running the tailgate I'm attending to see what time they are planning on arriving.

A couple of buddies talked about doing the Royals and the Chiefs game both, but we came to the conclusion that it would be too much, especially if they go along with the plans of kicking everyone out of the parking lot that doesn't have the combo parking pass. It'd be fun, but just too much of a hassle. Besides, I don't want to be incoherrent and/or already hanging over when the Chiefs game starts.

Yeah....I think I might pass on the Royals game. I'm going to want to sleep in and then be able to tailgate for a while. It'll be too rushed if I'm going from the Royals game to the tailgaiting and then to the Chiefs game. Plus the Royals suck and it's not like they're playing the Dodgers.

No. A guy got on here, chiefschargersmnf, looking for info about the game, tickets, tailgating, etc. I got to talking with him on facebook. A group of them (usually four) do "Epic" trips every year. They visit a city where they can attend two sporting events at while they're there, take in the local atmosphere, etc. One of them is a huge Chiefs fan. Home opener seemed like a no-brainer to come to, especially with the Royals being in town at that time too.

Hey Nzoner. You need any cash up front, or will we be paying you and getting our wristbands when we arrive like last year?

Too bad you have to miss Saturday,I'd put the bbq we're going to have here up against any of those KC places.

Also, you won't be coming to St Joe at all now, correct?

Yeah....if I could pull it off....I'd be there Saturday....but it's not possible.

And I'll still be there on Sunday. My flight gets in at 1 PM and since check in normally isn't until later on....I'll just come straight out there to watch some football.

I'd like to get money up front for 2 reasons

1.I don't have to fock with it on Saturday when I'm drinking

2.To help offset my upfront costs

So if you're reading this and would like to mail me a check(sorry no paypal) just pm me for my addy if you don't have it and please put your board name in the memo.

I'd rather wait until you're drinking, I have a feeling I can get a better deal that way.

Jesus, by the time this is all done, I'll have sent more checks to Joe than I have written to anybody else in my whole life.

I know where luv's tailgate is but where are the others that are planned that are open to Planet members. I would kind of like to hit everyones at some point since there will be so much time before the game.

Should Bob Dole just multiply the amount by 4 again?

No because Bob Dole has a credit of $128 and Nzoner will apply $80 of that to Bob Dole's meal tickets.

I won't be spending more than $50 bucks at the casino. I suck at gambling. I'll just be there to drink beer and shoot the shit with everyone.

I appreciate you guys are doing your own thing but damn it would've been nice to have everyone together at the Sunday Night spot for football and the like.
