Yeah...would have to try to get one of those pesky franchise QBs....we might fail. So, let's not even try.

So, the moral of the story is - Parkins is as dumb as Fescoe.

He's not alone. I've heard a half-dozen sports personalities suggest this over the last several days. This team would be a legitimate Superbowl contender with Manning at the helm. They'd have a VERY short window (maybe 3 years), but with this team where it is...that might be all you need. Thing is, after 3 years was up...you'd be in the hunt for a franchise QB again.

It's the "calling off a team meeting" part that unsettles me.
I could honestly care less what he called it off to do instead.
Your team stinks. You shouldn't be cancelling meetings to do anything non-football related unless it's an emergency of some kind.

I'm NOT suggesting it happened. I have no clue whether it did or not.
I said as much. "Citing an unnamed source is easy to do."

This could be worse than Dummy realizes ...

In Western PA, "going out" means dressing up like a woman and strolling around downtown Olathe picking up guys.

Simmah, Mr. Micjones.

Honestly. They meet all the friggin' time. Maybe he decided to give them a break from a late day meeting. Maybe he had the runs. Maybe he had a family emergency. Maybe he and Pioli decided to talk on the QT about some personnel moves.

This place goes so overboard on speculation, it makes me want to be a winged radish sometimes.

Its really no big deal. If the team looked unprepared to play like they did against the Lions, Bills and Dolphins, i might be more concerned. But the team came out and played hard and won. Non story.

I'm not upset about it. I just think, if true (which is likely impossible to know), that his priorities are out of order.

If there hadn't been four games this season where his team looked completely unprepared on gameday...you'd have a point.

Those instances suggest there might be a culture problem as it relates to preparation. So I think it becomes a bigger issue than this one instance.

The bigger problem is that this guy isn't a good head coach. He's a good WR coach, and might be a good OC.

So Parkins started this bullshit rumor and had to debunk it himself.

Why would Pioli need to leak something like this? If he doesn't like Haley, he could simply fire him at any time. Pioli is the boss.

This is a random place to point it out, but I'm so tired of people saying the team was unprepared to play Detroit. Go back and watch that game. Until about 5 minutes before halftime, it was a 7-3 score, and that's after the enormous downer of watching Jamaal getting carted off during the first series.

Everyone showed up to play that day except Matt Cassel and his 47 turnovers.

This is the exact reason why I love the Chiefs being so secretive. Some complain about Haley and his "coach speak" and how we never know anything or that they don't release any information.

What's left is crap like this that the media tries to spin into something bigger because Haley/Pioli have given them nothing to talk about. These media folks are one step above prostitution.

Q: Someone from the organization offered to me that you cancelled a team meeting before the Bears game in Chicago, do you have any comments on that?

HALEY: “Really? We did not have a team meeting in Chicago, but there’s been a number of occasions where I haven’t had team meetings. That goes on during the week, it goes on before the games, as a matter of fact I didn’t talk to them the night before the Steeler game either, or the morning of when we had that at least scheduled meeting. But we had our offense, defense meetings and we all just sat around and ate together and watched some college football as opposed to me talking more, which sometimes I’m sure I get talked out. Or we fire Haley, disrupt forward momentum, and hire a coach who ends up sending us either sideways or backwards.

I get the impression that people are taking Haley's "I'm surprised but I guess I shouldn't be" as him saying "I'm surprised somebody with the team would call and plant some story to smear me, but I guess I shouldn't be".

What he said actually seemed directed more to Parkins, like "I'm surprised you'd even ask me about something so stupid, but I guess I shouldn't be."

Haley's not going to directly say the first thing you said. But there's no freaking doubt he's thinking it. And maybe he's taking a little jab.

here's my big hang-up. This is a tight-lipped organization, yet stories seem to leak out about Haley all the time by an "inside source." Pioli has to know who's feeding this information. If he's not feeding him the information, he's enabling it.

If I'm Pioli, I put the fear of God in anyone who leaks this information (you have to, if you're being tight-lipped about everything else). And I go to the press and relentlessly defend my head coach.

Instead, all we hear is a rehearsed speech about how he and Haley actually get along.

Nick Wright spent like a freaking hour talking about this last night and how (in his opinion) it's blatantly obvious that the front office is smearing Haley to make him easier to fire.

In Peter King MMQB style, here's 2 things I think that I think:
1. Wright can't possibly believe that trash. He's just covering for his boy who ran with a weak and apparently untrue story.
2. Why would the front office need an excuse to fire Haley? A "smear campaign" really only works on the fans...everybody within the organization and in the league already has an opinion of Haley. And a lame story like this isn't going to sway the opinion of very many people. If they really need ammo, just say "HE CONTINUES TO START TYLER PALKO"

Chiefnj2 12-08-2011 08:37 AM

With all the secrecy that has surrounded the organization since the day Pioli was hire, it wouldn't surprise me if this rumor was leaked as a "test run" to see who blabs to the media. Lock down the leaks before the season ends and real discussions begin about whether Haley will be extended, who else they are considering, etc.

Like others have said, it's not a big deal in any event and easily disproved or denied without any impact on Haley or the organization.

This is the biggest non-story of the year. Is that a contradiction in terms?

No wonder Haley doesn't have time to shave. He's busy eatin pizza, slamming beers and getting his mac on like the rest of us.

IMO If Pioli thought Haleys the guy he would have already extended his contract.

Why would he be extended in the middle if his 3rd year?

At this point, I don't really care if he goes out for pizza every saturday.

The season is over, most of the best players are hurt, the offense sucks and 3 defenders will probably make the probowl.
