Agreed but are you old enough to remember Johnny Gosch?

How about the days when you could let your kids go trick or treating. When I was a kid we would take off at sunset and fill up a pillow case full of candy, come home and dump it and go back for more. Our parents did not walk with us or even worry about us being gone for 2 or 3 hours and had no reason to be~

The Franchise 01-24-2012 04:17 PM

Shit....I can remember being left in the car while my parents went into the store.

How 'bout the good ol' days when women were considered chattel and it was legally impossible to rape your wife.

Yeah. Those two were the secret fears in every parent's head in Iowa when I was a kid although Martin happened when I was in high school. Like you said, when I was a kid we could roam all over god's creation, and we did. IIRC Gosch was the first person to have his face on a milk carton?

Cars with lighters and ashtrays.

Non-prescription medication that comes in bottles instead of a box that could easily hold 200 pills yet contains EIGHT pills, encased in tri-layer sheeting you need a ginsu knife to open.

Three or four news outlets, instead of 500,000 competiting for our advertising dollars by TRYING TO SCARE THE **** OUT OF EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Heh. When I was in college I mowed the landlord's acre lawn as part of rent. Used his old-ass tractor mower. The thing had a cigarette lighter and beer holder stock issue. Used to drive that thing around with a beer and a smoke on a Sunday afternoon happy as a pig in shit. Hadn't thought of that in a long time.

Yep, Orbitz. Made by Clearly Canadian. It was like, 3 bucks a bottle in the late 90's and tasted like ass.

Ok that one I've never seen.
Dad had a 66 Dodge Monaco though that had cruise control. It had a dial like on a radio that you turned to select the speed you wanted to run at. Pull the knob and it would take over.

His mother is batshit crazy. I've had some dealings with her in my last job, and It's clear she has not recovered from losing him. 30 years later and she can't hold a conversation without bringing him up.

There can only be one Planters Cheez Balls, but I picked up a barrel of Utz Cheese Balls at Costco yesterday and they are pretty damn good. Not quite the dissolve in your mouth texture Planters had, but the same finger residue, similar volumes of tooth stickage, maybe a little sweeter. Acceptable substitute, imo.
