I would suggest not watching any Royals games if you want to avoid drug use.

Keep at it man. Can't imagine what it is like but we are pulling for you.

Day 3 complete. Clean. No day 3 stumble this time. I think I've got this thing whipped. I'm keeping that mindset anyway. I have to give you all a collective THANK YOU for the support. I know it's not over yet, but the worst is behind me.

JD, I don't know you personally or how bad your addicition is. However, while dealing with it a good plan is to immerse yourself into something you enjoy. If its breaking down the draft, running, etc, if you can get your mind off it consistently you'll find yourself in a better place. All the best

COchief 04-24-2012 10:17 PM

So I'm curious, how is it you still have a girlfriend? Whenever I've had a script for HD my dick was worthless for that week or so.

I, personally, turned down my prescription when I got mine pulled. I hate hydocodone. I've only taken them twice and I hated it. It barely numbed the pain and made me all kinds of ****ed up and sick to my stomach.

Same here, I never enjoyed feeling like a zombie. I avg about 2 ibuprofen a year.

LMAOLMAOLMAO

Yeah that was an unpleasant side effect at first. Oddly enough that, eh hem, "issue" went away after a while.

Never made me sick - neither does codine. I loved the feeling - warm, happy, just in a pleasant/ good mood.

One thing I can't stomach is alcohol. I won't touch the stuff. Makes me super dizzy and feel like dog ****.

Believe me JD, if you've whipped its ass for 3 days, you've got the war won. Just don't let up on the last lap.

Way to tough it out, dude!

I'm a marathon ****er on that shit. Takes more attention to get him alive, but that's a win-win.

Hey addiction. nlm nlm nlm

4 days clean. I think I've got this thing beat. I realize I'm going to have to be careful from here on out, but lord I feel good right now. Withdrawal effects have subsided substantially. No more cravings. Plus I disposed of the pills I had left. I feel great knowing I had the power to overcome this.

Now the 2nd phase kicks in.

And I want you to know I'm not saying this to be a d!ck - I just want you to be prepared.

The days will stretch on forever. Time seems to slow.

After a clean work week you'll feel like you've won a battle and week after week you'll feel like you have to battle just to make it through a work week.

At some point you'll ask yourself "how is there this much time in a day? I don't ever remember the days being so long! Just what the **** am I going to do with all this time!?!"

And about then is when you realize just what you've been filling all your time with. And how selfish that really is...

Nice dude.

One day at a time. Don't worry long term. Just focus on getting though the current craving (if craving is the right word).

Good luck dude. I had my wisdom teeth out about a month ago, and only took hydrocodone for about 3-4 days. Coming off that crap was just aweful, and never again will I ever think any less of someone who finds themselves addicted to it. Hydrocodone is one evil beyotch.

DT

The Dawg 04-26-2012 11:14 PM

3-4 days huh? I'm surprised you had any withdraw effects at all. Thanks for the well wishes. Today is day 5 of being clean. I've got it whipped at this point.

Yikes! My pain didn't come so much from the wisdom tooth extraction - What actually was happening was one of my wisdom teeth was coming in sideways, pushing its way slowly into another tooth. It pushed long enough it causes a hole in the tooth. It ended up causing a fairly serious infection and I needed a root canal. Having the wisdom teeth out was bad enough, but needing a root canal shortly after was even worse.

Awesome, man. But don't take it for granted that you've beaten it. Addictions never really go away. All it takes is one day from hell and.... But still proud of ya' for coming this far.

So a little back story. Basically I have been addicted to hydrocodone since I had my wisdom teeth out last June. At my peek I had been taking upwards of 50mg per day. I have recently been cutting down (10-20mg per day) - and now I have decided enough is enough.

Day 1 - Complete. It's been over 24 hours since my last 5mg dose. Today was not fun. I tried to watch the Royals game, but that didn't put me in a very good mood. I mowed grass, spent some time with my girlfriend, tried everything in the book to keep it off my mind. I'm tired, lethargic, dizzy, but I'm not giving in. I'm going to make it through this. Any thoughts, prayers, and good wishes are welcome. I've tried this once before and fell flat on my face day 3. I'm determined to not let it happen again.

good for you. i've got a... similar issue that has been ongoing for over a year now. i wish i cold find a way to quit. i'm in a little deeper than you however. :(

did you have another name, originally?

GoHuge 04-27-2012 02:53 AM

I know a couple people that have been real addicts with pain killers.........like 2-3 80mg OC's that they'd take to the face a day. They would love to have as low a tolerance as you do. Ha you think you have problems? One of them went through 3 years of probation, rehab, house arrest, etc. Luckily for him he finally got clean and free of the legal problems without having anything on his record and never served a day in jail........amazingly.

R8RFAN 04-28-2012 05:24 PM

You should pm your number to your friends here and they can send you a text everyday reminding you how much better your life is gonna be when you kick this shit for good.

mrbiggz 04-28-2012 06:23 PM

I took hydracodone for a dentist milking a toothache for money over a month during the Holidays last fall. I was never addicted at all but did notice I was more emotional and sensitive to things. Also made my sexdrive go up which was a bad thing sense I had a very high sex drive anyway and my woman in no way could keep up which left me more frustrated, angry, and emotional over things.

Once I fired the dentist and got my root canal done I went back over things and was able to see clearly what was going on.

Right. But you don't wake up one day and go take 240mg of Oxycontin and LIVE. If a normal sized human being decided to take such a large dose, in particular if they broke up the pills I would imagine they would be dead. It's a process... you build up tolerance so you have to take more and more pills and stronger and stronger pills.

Did I have problems? Yes. But now that I am over a week clean I can look back, realize what I was doing was stupid, and look forward to a future of being clean.

Helping others with addictions will help you out more than you would expect. It's giving back and very rewarding. That's a good path to get on and make a practice of it as you deal with it you don't have to do it by yourself that way.
