Jesus Christ you ppl are pessimistic. I realize Atlanta is probably a little better but they aren't world beaters. They were 10 - 6 last year. Chiefs were decimated by injuries and had to start Tyler Palko for a few games and the Chiefs still went 7 - 9.

Regarding the game I don't think they will be able to stop our run game. That opens up screens and play action which we should be able to take advantage of. We have game breakers just like they do. One or two missed tackles/assignments and we can certainly win this game. Go Chiefs!

2- Without Tamba Hali Ryan will have all day to throw, especially considering point 1.

3- The thought of Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Gonzo, against our depleted secondary stresses me to almost puking.

This is gonna be one of those games when we see passes completed against our D with scary consistency. The only way we have any chance to win this is if we can manage long time consuming run heavy drives that would keep the Atlanta O on the bench for the majority of the game. Maybe that's why Daboll was emphasizing the run in the last preseason game so much.

Tell me something hopeful.

Jeez Frankie; put your big boy pants on.

I know, but we all know long term gamblers don't win, and if the public is pounding one side, that can only be a plus for the other. A fix could also be in the making, especially with these refs.

I'm skeptical about his availability. Even if he's there, he's bound to be rusty.

If somehow the real battle ready Flowers plays we then might have a chance to withstand their areal attack.

DeepSouth 09-02-2012 02:27 AM

The Falcons have a new offensive coordinator. This prompted their 3rd string QB (John Parker Wilson) to be released after the 2nd preseason game. It also prompted the 2nd string QB (Chris Redman) to be released after the 3rd preseason game.
They then signed Luke McCown who did not play in the final preseason game. Rumor has it, some offensive players are unhappy with the new Offensive Coordinator. My hope is, this creates a distraction with the Falcon's offense.
The Falcon's offensive coordinator for 2011 is now the head coach for the Jaguars. John Parker Wilson was signed to the Jaguars practice squad on Saturday.
The Falcons primary backup is an undrafted rookie. The 3rd string QB is McCown. Take out Ryan, game over.

But somehow, CP will make it out to be "The Sky is falling" if we lose.

2010 we won the opener against the Chargers. If we'd lost we wouldn't have made the playoffs. And to make it better, if McCluster had not returned the punt for a TD we would not have won that game.

Rusty?

He's not a QB. If he's available, he'll be fine.

They just can't allow Ryan all day to throw.

If those two get going, the Chiefs have a chance.

Jamaal & Hillis will have some success, but in order for the Chiefs to win I believe they need to score twice or more in the air and sack Matt Ryan 3 times. Poe may not get a sack, but if he can pressure from that RDE position Houston could get it done.

So our key to winning is a rookie DT, playing the right 5 tech? Could you be any ****ing dumber?...

Ultimately it will come down to our offense. If ground and pound it we can win. If we rely on Cassel's arm and short dump offs we are in for a long day. I do think we can win this. I don't take our preseason performance very seriously. We usually suck in the preseason.

Discuss Thrower 09-02-2012 08:21 AM

I didn't like KC's chances. And that was before the preseason and the slew of injuries.

Red Dawg 09-02-2012 09:20 AM

No Lewis, probably no Flowers and no Tamba? We are going to get beat. We will not be able to cover Jones and White without a miracle.

We will have to sustain super long drives to contol their possesions to have a shot.

We're just going to run the shit out of the ball. We just have to limit the number of times ATL's offense sees the ball. Much easier said than done.

I moved to Kansas Shiitty because Atlanta was getting expensive to live in. Atlanta is my favorite team, KC is my 2nd.

Kentucky basketball and Bama football I'm assuming.

Good work front-runner.

Dirty Bird 09-02-2012 02:27 PM

Chiefs can easily take this one. Falcons struggle on the road and have lost in two straight openers. Losing Hali and potentially Johnson (one of my fav lb's) is huge. The Falcon's have receiving threats but don't have adequate time to give them the ball. If Chiefs fail to generate pass rush it could be a long day for KC. On offense I expect a ground and pound attack from KC using Hillis and Charles. This worries me, with the loss of our run stopper Curtis Lofton can the young 2nd year MLB Akeem Dent fill in adequately? As a Falcon fan my ideal situation would be to take an early lead therefore prompting Cassel to throw into the Falcons secondary which is a strength of our D.

At the most Falcons may win by 10 but I don't think it will be a murder by any means. If there is any sort of lead (Mike Smith) "Smittyball" will ensue after halftime where ultra-conservative plays will be called.

Chiefs Pantalones 09-02-2012 03:22 PM

It's obvious that Atlanta on defense is going to try to do what any smart team would do: Stop the run and force Cassel to beat them. That's going to force Cassel to try and make some plays in the passing game. I don't know if I'm necessarily confident in that. And it's going to likely happen. There is going to be times in this game where Cassel IS going to have to be a QB and go through progressions and find his targets like a QB is supposed to do. If successful that will (in turn) open up the running game. Both the passing game and the running game have to play off of each other and help the other out. Sorry fellas, Cassel is going to have to make some plays for us to win this game and we do have the talent around him to help him do that. We'll see what happens.

On defense it's simple...kill Matt Ryan.

how exactly are we going to kill Matt Ryan like you Chiefs homers are predicting with literally ONE pass rusher. One pass rusher with just 1 season under his belt that is still young and inexperienced. You just expect him to carry the load. Nobody else on this front 7 is going to help him or provide any pass rush and you damn well know that. We aren't the Giants, we dont have 4 pass rushers that can go at any time. We have 2. 1 is out. We now have 1 and a bunch of guys that barely get any push.

To think we are going to generate any pass rush when we are a bottom team in sacks even with Tamba Hali who is like 50 percent (maybe more) of our sack output in a season is just laughable and completely unrealistic

Tamba did okay for years without anybody opposite him. Bout time for Houstons balls to drop. Perfect opportunity. Never know it could happen.
