saphojunkie 09-06-2012 11:10 AM

DJ misses more tackles, because DJ is fast enough to get into position to make plays. Siler is not capable of getting to the plays that DJ is. You're literally blaming DJ for being good enough to even get to the ball carrier, while Siler benefits from being too slow and stupid to even be able to miss a tackle. He's just NOT INVOLVED IN THE PLAY.

If Siler were so good at tackling and were capable of getting to the play, he would get more tackles per game than DJ. He does not.

It's like a guy who ONLY swings at fastballs. He hits the ball more times per swing!

Fine. He also takes far more strikes on curves. What's your effing point?

All of this is why we need to draft this guy next year:

Getting there is a big part of tackling. It doesn't count as a miss if you're not there to do anything.

Hey. Do you remember that play that made you gasp in horror this pre season?

You know, that one where all your confidence in this defense was once again shattered, splintered in pieces?

That one play where your jaw dropped in amazement as to how a defense that had come so far over the past two seasons could suddenly look like the keystone cop sequence you hated watching over the past decade?

Ya, that play where, suddenly, the season ahead was about to be come the nightmare ahead?

That one play that changed everyone's outlook of the Chiefs 2012?

The play where 30 seconds into the game, the starting defense got trampled by an aging downhill runner?

That play where the opposing offense handed the ball off and ran it straight at Dorsey and DJ?

That play where Dorsey couldn't get off a single block to make a tackle?

That play where DJ ran through the hole and 5 yards into the opposing backfield while the ball carrier ran for a huge gain in DJ's absence?

That play where the RB gouged the defense for 20 yards before he was tackled by the free safety?

That play that shattered everyone's hope for a good season?

I knew you would remember.

I get all of this. I know DJ is a better player. If Michael Turner is running straight at one of them, who do you trust to make the fundamental tackle and bring him down? Siler or DJ?

I think we are saying the same thing. This isn't about pursuit. This is about form. Jack Lambert was scary as hell and a playmaker and Jack Hamm was a better tackler. People remember Jack Lambert and forget about Hamm. Jack Hamm was the greatest fundamental tackler of all time.

DJ, hands down with no hesitation.

I think Siler is perfect for the Levon Kirkland role.

The big hitter/space filler.

His problem is he "trods" left to right. He has no fucikng lateral movement at all. NONE.

His agility and quickness laterally are total $3it.

If he plays foreward, fills gaps, and makes tackles he could impress...

If Michael Turner is running right at you, you do NOT try and hold your ground and form tackle. He'll break your clavicle. He has the size to do it, and he's RUNNING with you STANDING STILL.

DJ, smartly, would not try and "hit and wrap up." He would - as he does often - take out the runner's ankles. He's been doing it since UT, and it's how he ends up taking down so many runners in the backfield. He goes for their legs. I love it. I prefer it. Not everyone can do it effectively, but he can.

Now, what if it weren't Michael Turner? What if it were Darren Sproles? or McFadden? Forte? Mathews? Deangelo Williams? Any of the other runners that will just juke Siler out of his jockstrap and run around? Yeah...I'll still take DJ - because he won't lose those guys in the open field.

Last year I kept saying over and over that Belcher was the weak link in our linebacker corps. I got beaten up bad over that. He's a average to less than average starting NFL linebacker. He's good on the run, sucks on the blitz, and draws personal foul penalties.

I think Siler will be better.

We will miss Tamba's pass rush a lot in this game. Hopefully Houston can pick it up.

much like a shortstop with range, he has more opportunities to miss a guy and attempts more difficult tackles.

that said, our entire defense tackles pretty poorly.

If you tackle someone and don't end up on the ground yourself, you did something wrong. If you don't wrap up then you are probably worried about getting hurt and not fully committed to the tackle.

Either way, people are pissed off and you've done your job trolling.

Well done.

So if Belcher doesn't play...and DJ doesn't play...and Poe is Poe....our run defense = trash.

And if Flowers doesn't play...and Hali isn't playing....and neither is Lewis...our pass defense = trash.

Oh well.

Not a ****ing chance.

Contrary to the misguided views espoused in this thread by certain individuals, Belcher is a very solid Mike backer who has gotten better each of the past two seasons.

He absolutely brings the lumber while defending the run and consistently blows up guards.

Belcher is, without question, ascending in this system and at the position.

Belcher has a sore groin and this place implodes.
