Absolutely love the games (1-3 mainly) but didn't care for the movie. I have quite a few reasons why. I listed them here a while back. There were some good things about it. Great environment. I liked the visuals and was happy they used Akira Yamaoka's music. Have you seen the sequel yet?

Im about to watch The Babadook tonight. I'll let you know how it is. 96% approval on Rotten Tomatoes though, which is rare for a horror movie.

IT's not out in Theaters in the U.S yet. It's an Australian made movie and it's been released in other countries, just not here yet.

HOWEVER, DirecTV is running a Halloween special premiere on it right now. Im about to Order it in a few minutes.

Interesting. Wonder if piratebay has it. I'll check it out. Are you big on Japanese horror movies? I need a good recommendation. I've seen Ju-on and Ringu movies already. I've heard great things about "Audition".

I've seen both Ju-on and Ringu. I saw one of them in the theaters, can't remember which.

Audition was a great movie, a must see if you're into Asian horror.

It's more of a torture movie though, more so than a Horror.

Right on. Sounds fun. You should check out some Dario Argento movies if you haven't. Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) is interesting, though I could see how someone would hate it. It's just weird.

lcarus 11-01-2014 12:10 AM

I've probably mentioned this movie before a time or two, but damn it, I'm gonna stick with it til the end. Hellraiser V: Inferno. It's not only my favorite Hellraiser movie, but it's one of my favorite horror movies ever. I don't know what it is about it exactly, but I really dig it. I know Clive Barker personally doesn't care for it, but you know what? **** Clive Barker in this instance.

First 2 were great. 3 & 4 were doggy shit. I loved Inferno. Hellseeker was pretty good. 7 was shit but I'd sodomize Kari Wuhrer. And finally Hellworld was a guilty pleasure but in reality a shitty movie.

Never saw the newest one with non-Doug Bradley as Pinhead....

I'll end up watching it im sure. The horror genre suffers from a lack of originality though, which is kinda sad seeing as how they have such a wide open canvas to work with.

This one, while i'll certainly see it when it's available online, is just a mash of Texas Chainsaw & Hills Have Eyes.

How bad is the 'other Shining'? (the one released in the 90s with one of the actors from Wings) From what i hear it sticks closer to the book but the acting is just horrible.

Endless dialog from C level actors with little to no tension or suspense. It's what you might think you would get from a made for TV version of a King novel.

Just think of all the other King novels that were made for TV (IT, The Stand, The Tommyknockers, et. al.) and you get the idea.

You're better off watching Plan 9 From Outer Space or Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

The made for TV version of The Shinning, and all the other King novels that were turned into multi-part TV specials, is absolute and total garbage.

You want some scary movies? Try any of the VHS movies (the second is the scariest in my opinion) or the J-horror movie The Audition.

I found out that a party I was at about 5 years ago while still living in PA was being hosted by "Jake", the stud man from Sixteen Candles. He makes custom furniture or something like that now. Kinda glad I didn't know because I would have been too tempted to hit him up with questions he's probably been asked a million times.

IMHO, The Shining TV series was horrible. The Kubric version is a masterpiece.

I love the kubric move other than the ending.
the book ending was so very touching and emotional and most importantly offered redemption for jack in that when it came right down to it he chose his family over the hotel. the ghosts are demanding that he let the steam off the boiler and Danny mentally contacts him...they exchange the oft repeated phrase in the book "kissin' kissin' that's what I've been missing"....and he decides...**** you ghosts....**** you hotel.... I'ma let this bitch blow!

for some reason kubric decided to have him freeze to death in a hedge maze that wasn't even in the book. I'm supposing the hedge maze happened because the technology of the times couldn't deal with living hedge animals.....and that's somewhat understandable.....but he coulda still stuck to the emotional ending from the book.

Steve Weber stood absolutely NO CHANCE of filling Nicholsons shoes. poor bastard.

Watched The House at the End of Time last night. It has subtitles, so if you can't deal with that then don't watch. I thought it was a good story, and pretty original. Not so much a horror but more like a supernatural thriller. And it's on Netflix.

Terrible movie, and I usually like anything Bana does.

Most everything in the movie never even came close to happening to the real NY cop... I hate "based on a true story" movies that add in all kinds of things that never occurred.

Horror Movies

It Follows was a good watch.

I made the mistake of reading the thread here about it prior to my first viewing and someone mentioned how shit like that always happens to defenseless teens and not badasses like Wolverine or something.

So I spent the entire movie thinking about how quickly "it" would have been taken care of by a fistful of retractable adamantium claws.

Joe_Camel 10-15-2015 05:37 AM

True enough.

I don't remember exactly which one it was because its been a while and they've all sort of melded together, but the one where the couple was traveling through the southwest, staying in the hotel. That one got me. When the chick slowly pushed the knife through the guys neck while he was sleeping.

That was pretty disturbing in my eyes.

That was creepy as all Hell. I do like the V/H/S anthology format, quick & to the point but most of them build real fear and have some genuine scary moments. They are hit and miss (the whole parallel universe story from V/H/S; Viral was boring to me) but more hits than misses.

The one with the people having monster sex appendages?

That one was extremely intriguing to me with the build up but ultimately disappointed.

Yeah that's the one. And I agree, lots of build up and a fascinating premise but failed to deliver outside of simple shock and jump scares.

I watched VHS2 last night. Or, i tried. It was late, i fell asleep during the 2nd story. I decided to watch it just because of your post, so i hope that last story is a good one. I haven't read your spoiler yet.

Or something as lame as not putting out...

It never fails to amaze me how the small stuff makes you pull up the blanket.

That Documentary on night terrors freaked me out. I use to sleep walk (a lot) and had a bad dream here and there but never had that.

Apparently you can start having it at any random point in your life without any other signs of mental illness.

ANYONE can get it.

That's more terrifying to me than any horror movie...

when I was a kid my parents found me several mornings out in the backyard asleep under a tree. that's pretty uncool man. but at least I wasn't having night terrors. some irrational part of me is afraid that if I watch it.....I'll get it. :(

Just watched the possession of Michael king, and the Atticus intstitute. Was shockingly surprised by both.
Housebound was a pretty hilarious horror/comedy. Horror is hard to find and opinions vary wildly. I watched a vampire mockumentary called Afflicted and liked it a lot.

Endless dialog from C level actors with little to no tension or suspense. It's what you might think you would get from a made for TV version of a King novel.

Just think of all the other King novels that were made for TV (IT, The Stand, The Tommyknockers, et. al.) and you get the idea.

Yeah yikes, not too good on that. Maybe, sometime in the off-season if I have time, but this time of year much better horror movies will be a better way to spend time.

I dunno. always pissed me off....especially leaving out the hedge animals. just ****ing STUPID. and the ending! what a STUPID ending stanley! king got it right in the book so don't **** with it!

the steven weber version...I liked it. it was a little long winded though. but I got my damn hedge animals and a MUCH better looking wendy! :D also the scene with the lady coming out of the tub after the boy is very disturbing considering it was on TV. pretty sick man. loved it.

Take my word on this, the best way to watch the tv miniseries of The Shining is to get the DVD and watch it straight through(4.5 hours),it's not even close to being as bad as others are saying.

I love both films but as stated Kubrick really took liberties with his version and from what I understand King was none to happy thus he was also the executive producer of the tv series so he could have the input and so it followed the book to a tee including hedge animals and the denver croquet mallet.
