Andre Johnson shouldve snapped his neck

gblowfish 03-05-2013 05:25 PM

I saw Brian Baldinger on NFL Network last night saying the Chiefs will probably draft that big ass D-Tackle from Utah with the first pick now. Said he'd be a nose tackle in the 3-4. Isn't that why we took Poe last year????

Here's what I think we should do:
1) Try to trade down with St. Louis. They have two first round picks (16 and 22) They need a left tackle BAD to protect Bradford. Trade the #1 for their two #1s, and they get Jokel. We then pick a corner and wide receiver in the first round. QB in the 3rd.

2) If we can't trade out, Pick Geno, then get a corner in the third round.

3) If we can't trade out, and they won't pick Geno, get that corner from Alabama.

It'll be interesting to see what we do in free agency. These guys are definitely moving and shaking....

I have no clue what the Rams cap number is but they would be better served just going out and getting one of the FA tackles.

DJ's left nut 03-05-2013 05:29 PM

There isn't a WR that fits terribly well into the 16 or 22 draft spots, IMO. Unless you were really high on Austin. I guess some folks really like Keenan Allen, but I just don't see the explosion there. He's Bowe at his very best and we really need someone that can spread the field more than anything.

Turning 1.1 into Banks/Trufant and Austin would be pretty nice, though.

Realistically, I think the Rams would just try to give up a lot less than both #1 picks and try to move up to take Lane Johnson.

Mr. Flopnuts 03-05-2013 05:29 PM

If Smith wants that kind of money, why didn't we just pay Brandon Carr again?

Except that they all have issues.

Andre Smith was overweight early in his career and a big money deal may cause him to become lax. Jake Long has injury issues. Who else is out there since Beatty signed and Clady & Albert were franchised?

The answer to any question that arises from the last 4 years is an easy one:

Because Scott Pioli is a moron.

That's it. There's nothing else to it. It's staggering how incompetent that guy was.

The new GM is having to clean up a lot of Fat Scott's mess. Fixing the Carr/Routt mess may be costly, but we have to do something. Jalil Brown ain't gonna cut it. I'm also worried about Kendrick Lewis. He's injury prone and misses a lot of tackles. We really need a new corner and safety. Hartman may be OK, but I think we can do better.

Sassy Squatch 03-05-2013 05:37 PM

Our secondary should be Flowers, Carr, Berry, and Pollard. Goddamn Pioli. Pollard should be doing what Berry does every game.

As I've been saying all offseason, the Chiefs have glaring holes at safety, CB and ILB (they took care of the QB issue). They have depth issues everywhere but offensive line and the WR postion, after Bowe, is somewhat pedestrian.

But they definitely need to address CB, Safety and ILB. The Chiefs cannot enter the 2013 season with the guys currently on the roster as starters.

Yep. Hard to believe that after 4 years under *****, the Chiefs are as paper thin (and in some areas worse) as the day he was hired.

So he was due a salary of $14mil and now "can make up to" $5.2 Awesome.

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-05-2013 05:46 PM

A day after the Chiefs kept their three top free agents; they kept the serviceable Tyson Jackson at a much reduced rate.

Jackson
The No. 3 pick of the 2009 draft was expected to be a prime candidate to be cut. His salary cap number was at more than $17 million and his base salary was at more than $14 million. Under this new deal, Jackson can make up to $5.2 million with a much more manageable salary-cap number. Jackson is still eligible to be a free agent in 2014.

A bit of a long shot, but Husain Abdullah was a top 25 safety in 2011 according to Pro Football Focus. He took a year off, then we signed him this off-season. You can't really count on a return to prominence, but he was a nice risk that we'll want to keep an eye on.

I think they will pick up a FA WR. Walker, Wallace or some 2nd tier WR. I see us going after a CB in FA also. And on top of that, draft a WR in the 4th. We take a CB in the 3rd. It's obvious that Reid and Dorsey want this to be their team.

I like this move. Jackson was a flop as a draft pick. But he can be an average DL and did seem to get better last year. We shouldn't judge him on where he was drafted. thats on *****, not him.
