Flowers can deal with Decker, who's a technician as a route-runner but isn't physically overpowering. Smith would be a nice counter to Thomas in that he's one of the few guys in the league with the size to match up with him who also has the athleticism to hang with him. Robinson is a great matchup for Welker in that he's physical enough to knock him off routes and spend the day beating him up if necessary (Abdullah then plays FS). I hadn't looked at it in terms of pure matchups, but the Chiefs secondary actually would match up pretty well vs. the Broncos WRs. |

I expect the next signing to be Maualuga or Dansby honestly. I'd hate to think with all of this swinging around, that they'd miss a solid ILB subordinate to DJ. |
Da ****. Smith said he would play for free because he values friendship with Al Harris and the Staff more than money.
I already love Sean Smith. |

This guy is 26 YEARS OLD. We just picked up a premier corner entering the best years of his career. We could see one of the most dominant defenses in years (maybe ever) in KC this year if we can get the DL right...no bullshit.

Lots of talent; if we gamble on him and give him good money, I hope we at least have him on a 4-year deal so we can reap the benefits of unlocking that ability (or bail after 3 if necessary). I'm gonna go with 4/$25. |

Let the complainers begin to complain! What's the matter w/ this signing folks? His former team didn't win 3 Super Bowls when he was on it?

Sean Smith deal is a 3 year deal.

Karlos Dansby or Brad Jones now.

Best FA pickup by the Chiefs in years.

The #Chiefs have had a serious offseason. New GM John Dorsey doing work. Getting Sean Smith for 3 years… pretty solid. |
@nfldraftscout: Every move the #Chiefs have made this offseason points to drafting an offensive tackle No. 1 overall.
|
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer
That Kansas City defense has some serious pieces with Poe, Jackson, Houston, Hali, Johnson, Flowers, Robinson, Berry and now Smith. |
It's going to be like watching a new team.
Not a bad thing considering we were 2-14. |

It points to them trading down. |

That just proves they aren't drafting Geno Smith, and that bums me out. It's going to be really tough to jump on board another ship being led by another teams castoff, again. |

Nice signing though. |
If they could trade down get their 2nd rounder back, I'd be all for it. But I don't think it'll happen.
|
Consider me highly pleased, a young, second round pick with great size for a corner, and he has experience matching up with teams best receivers... with the supporting cast he now has, he's gonna look much better than he did miami.

Why is everyone happy? Everyone said Sean Smith sucks...
http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=270929 Well, everyone except me that is. |
If I could just talk myself into believing A. Smith could be a top 12 QB, this offseason would give me a lot of hope. I'm not even in the anti-Alex crowd, I just think they gave up too damn much for him.

But they might view it differently, they could trade down and take another player, they could draft an LT (which is a travesty imo, but I wouldn't put Dorsey and Ried in the same galaxy as ***** or Carl, yet, and I wouldn't call the Alex Smith Casselesque in any measure). I am going to look at the good they made and enjoy it. |
Fantastic off season. We'll have to wait to see how it works out, but on paper....

I don't think Welker's any better than Decker. Robinson can hang with him in the slot just fine. |
Alex Smith sucks

Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Sean Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, on a three-year contract.
The news — which was first "reported" by Smith's former teammate Vontae Davis two weeks ago — comes via Smith's agent. He joins Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson to form one of the league's better cornerback trios, though Robinson could still end up at safety. It's the same failed strategy Andy Reid adopted in Philadelphia, but he's willing to give it a second chance as division-rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. Regardless of where Robinson plays, Smith will bookend Flowers on the outside. The Chiefs might not be ready to compete for a playoff spot, but are going to be a far tougher out in 2013. |

Fyi, while we wait to see what Sean Smith got $-wise, a note that CB Dunta Robinson got $13.8m from KC not $15m as I'd seen elsewhere. |
This will make the draft more interesting... look for Reid to go after playmakers on both sides... with fewer holes to fill.

I don't see any way they don't trade down at this point. With Hudson's injury and Allen's suspect play last year, not to mention Lilja's retirement, the Chiefs clearly need to take some linemen, no question. And while I think it's pretty apparent that O-Line is probably where they're going with their first, I can't imagine they aren't going to take a 'bad' trade down which would allow them to get yet another potential interior lineman in the 2nd. They have to be maxed on the cap and they still have 3 clear holes (ILB, RT and either C/G...maybe both). They need the ammo in the trade down to fill those holes in the draft. They can't just take Joeckel and call it a day; they're going to need another immediate contributor and I think they'd be fine moving down, taking Lane Johnson and then adding that 2nd round pick as an absolute worst case scenario. |

Second round pick would be near the top and we could be looking at Warford, Ertz, Woods, Hunter, or a QB to develop. |
@PCBearcat: That first summer, Pioli signed Copper, Engram, Wade and Toomer in an attempt to fix WR spot. #Chiefs

Actually they aren't maxed yet. They really do want a long term deal with Albert and will likely cut someone like Studebaker.

All we have to do to Manning is bounce him on his head a time or two. And if we don't do it, the Raiders will this year for sure.
