From what I understand, Charles was just running. Contact did not cause the injury.

Yeah. Because this is the first injury in the NFL so far.

I, for one, preferred Haley's method of taking it easy the entire way through. At least that way we could lose all of our star players in the first game of the regular season instead.

Foot strain, X-Rays negative. Everyone breathe.

Great news

ThaVirus 08-12-2013 10:21 AM

The Twitter feed in the Training Camp thread just showed a tweet that said Jamaal walked to the cart then rode in the front seat. He said players often ride in the cart to avoid a large hill.

Still scary but much better than actually being carted off the field.

Absolutely my first concern as well.

Lot's of season-stalling/ending injuries have started as foot sprains.

I wouldn't exhale just yet.

X-rays on Jamaal Charles’ foot negative, Chiefs call it a strain
Posted by Josh Alper on August 12, 2013, 12:16 PM EDT

The Chiefs got a scare on Monday when running back Jamaal Charles needed to be carted off the field at practice after an injury, but it looks like serious injury was averted.

According to several reporters who were in attendance at Chiefs practice, coach Andy Reid said that x-rays on Charles’ foot were negative. There’s no word about other tests that might be performed to assess the extent of the injury, which Reid referred to as a strain, nor was there any discussion of a timetable for a return to action.

Should there be no further negative developments upon further evaluation, it doesn’t sound like the kind of injury that will keep Charles out of the lineup for an extended period. Whether that means that he’s well enough to play in this week’s preseason game remains to be seen, although caution will almost certainly be exercised with a player whose ability to make plays in the open field will be one of the focal points of the team’s offense this season

Ming the Merciless 08-12-2013 10:30 AM

Deja Vu all over again...

only we would need to lose our best defensive player and a TE or something too...

maybe Alex Smith will get a kidney removed or something just to complete the curse

That's not entirely true.

A lisfranc injury can involve a break, but it doesn't have to. The lisfranc region is that spot at the middle/top of your foot where all those little bones hook together. My recollection is that Garrison Hurst broke those bones; his was a 'break' style of lisfranc injury.

But Darren McFadden? His was a sprain. MJD? He never broke anything either. Matt Spaeth just went down 8-10 weeks with a lisfranc sprain.

"Foot sprain" is a plenty spooky diagnosis, folks.

absolutely. Im sure Tom Brady isn't going to miss Wes Welker, Aaron the murderer or Gronk if he misses significant time.

Im also sure that Aaron Rodgers, isn't going to miss Greg Jennings Donald Driver, or Jordy Nelson.

And Kaep in no way shape or form is going to miss Crabtree.

yeah. Kniles will get destroyed against the 49ers ones. Put Draughn in. He is a one cut runner. That's what the Chiefs are going to need this week.

He may be, but I didn't see that in the game on Saturday. I saw a tip toe burglar who ran indecisively. I don't want his confidence shattered going against a defense that stops the run better than anyone else in the league.

A couple of fumbles, and boom, confidence shot.....

Nah, nothing that drastic.

But Charles should definitely be done for a good week or two.

I'm kind of anxious to see what Knile is capable of. He kind of has that running back name that says to me he can get 1,500+ yards. Knile Davis, I'm actually kind of glad we drafted him now.

If they can coach that out of him, we genuinely have another 1000+, 4.0+ yard average rusher. You can't deny the explosiveness, and he did his damage in the SEC which is respectable.

I have never questioned his explosiveness. But at this league, everyone attacks the ball. That is why I was the happiest that the Browns drafted Trent Richardson. He DOESNT FUMBLE. Watching Peyton HIllis fumble, was hazardous to my health.

We'll see. JC going down really made me think about what we have in reserve. We have this guy who is fast and is an SEC proven rusher, which Reid & co. thought was deserving of a 3rd round pick. Not saying I liked the pick, but he is a Chief now so lets utilize him. I'm thinking swing passes to this guy could be extremely beneficial.
