What part of "I am following the directions to the letter" did you not get? I know that. I have done that. It is not working now for me for some reason. It doesn't make any sense.

Well, doesn't change the fact that it worked for me earlier and now won't work at all. I'm doing everything exactly as I did it earlier and now it doesnt work. I can't do anything different at this point.

As a tech support guy, 90% of computer issues can be resolved by restarting, 9% by clearing browsing history and exiting the browser, and 1% are actual technical issues.

A Virtual Private Network. I use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. $40 a year and it covers both my computer and Android phone.

You ARE using chrome, right?

Everything seems to be working, except that it never stops buffering, whether in a Crome tab or in a popup.

First I first installed it, I would get the audio only right away, like 2-3 seconds, and Chrome blocked the popup that would have the video.

I told Chrome to allow popups and since then it's just buffer, buffer, buffer. No audio or video.

Awesome this worked for me thanks for posting the info.
I've relied on Firstrow.com for a couple of yrs now.
I knew it was going to be a challenge finding an alternative now that that sites been shut down.
This is too good to be true and I'm guessing it too will be shut down but I'm hoping for one season or maybe half a season before its over.

Here in upstate NY with the Bills/Jets/Giants games filling out the tv schedule there is no chance of even a random Chiefs game to air.
Only when they play one of these teams or a prime time game is on & we all know how often that is do I get to see a game non streamed.

People apparently were able to watch NFL games last season and the season before with a VPN to a server in the Netherlands.

In case anyone is wondering "huh? Why the Netherlands?", the NFL does not have a local broadcasting contract with any TV provider in the Netherlands.

I'm sure the NFL is aware that people can mask themselves to look like they are in the Netherlands. The steps in the original post are just an easier way to do that.

I'm not sure the NFL could "close the loophole" without cutting off the free service to people actually in the Netherlands.

JoeyChuckles 08-18-2013 12:31 PM

Another thing to keep in mind is that 99% of all fans in the US will have no idea about this workaround, or will not be savvy enough to implement the steps.

Forum users are often the exception and not the rule.

I'm not savvy enough to do that, either.

That's why I bought access to a VPN/IP in the Netherlands. :)

I also went ahead and just bought access to a VPN, maybe it'll be a waste of money but I don't want to trust the free method outlined in the OP on week 1. Even if it works, they might get flooded with users.

I went with StrongVPN, they have the oldest, most solid reputation I could find, and they have a 4-country special running right now for servers in the US, Canada, UK, and Netherlands. (huh, what an amazing coincidence, wonder why they picked NE as their 4th country in this special offer during the NFL pre-season)

I tried it out just now, while not connected to anything, the gamepass page tells me that I can't have it, and can only choose their audio service or game rewind. When connected to a VPN in the UK, they offer Gamepass for roughly $150. When connected to a VPN in the Netherlands, they don't ask me for money or an account, they just give me a big green Gamepass button saying "Watch Now"

Yep, they are counting on the (probably accurate) assumption that the vast, vast, vast majority of people will either not know about this, will be too tech-dumb to know how to connect to a VPN, or won't bother and just go to a sports bar.

If the NFL wants to offer free gamepass to the Netherlands, then there is technologically nothing the NFL can do about this. They have no way of knowing that I live in Iowa, their computers will see me as living in Amsterdam.

This is also going to be useful during the Olympics, you can bypass NBC's stupid restrictions, and watch everything live on the BBC.

The summer olympics are in Rio in 2016, which is one hour ahead of Eastern time if I'm not mistaken. But I get your point. Is there any country that gets MLB.tv for free?

Winter olympics are coming up, though.

Anyway, I don't see any country that gets free MLB.tv. Baseball has internationalized enough so that they can charge everyone for it, while the NFL is trying to get some countries to give a damn about their game.

However, this is going to work just fine to get around blackouts, just switch to a US server out of your team's market. I may go ahead and buy mlb.tv next year.

alnorth 08-18-2013 04:06 PM

Trying it out now, I'm now getting NFL network at the max HD quality. About 18 seconds behind the TV. Looks like I'll also have NFL red zone, and the ability to have 4 games on my computer screen at once.

No, it should work for the regular season, it did last year. The only way the NFL can stop it is if they decide to stop giving people in the Netherlands free game pass.

I'm not sure. There's a tab for "coach's film" but it hasn't worked so far. It might not be available for preseason, or it might not be available for the Netherlands.

It's probably not "unsafe" per se, but you're technically using your own internet connection to stream content to others. It might slow your connection down and that kind of thing. And if your view is that this is illegal (which is probably a stretch), you're technically helping to distribute that illegal material.

alnorth 08-19-2013 12:31 PM

Hola Unblocker may or may not work on game day in week 1, because it is basically a peer to peer VPN. Thats fine for the UK or US, but if you need the Netherlands, you are counting on having enough people in the Netherlands online with this installed to serve all of the demand from the US.

Buying access to a big VPN company is more expensive, but probably more reliable and faster.

its working just fine for me. I just now checked, and I'm seeing the Steelers/Redskins game on gamepass.

Try going to whatismyipaddress.com. If the map shows you in the Netherlands, then it ought to work. If not, then I don't know what to tell you, except maybe clear your cookies, reboot, and try again. (if the map shows you in the US or not in the Netherlands, then whatever VPN you are using is not working)

Are you sure you're on the right page on NFL? I ended up with the same screen once, but then figured out I was trying to view NFL Rewind instead of NFL Gameday. They are separate, and NFL Rewind costs money everywhere. Make sure you're trying NFL Gameday videos....

I got it. When you go to gamepass.nfl.com your hola blocker automatically goes to NL, correct? Well after it does this, reloads the page and shows 'watch it now', turn the hola unblocker off, then select what game you want to watch and it should boot up. Let me know if that works for you.

Sent a PM in case you dont read this, but I wanted to post this so if others are having the same issue, it's in the thread.
