Truck is packed and ready to go, but I'm already wondering if what is normally a 2 1/2 hour drive is going to be such a great idea in the a.m.

Sheet of ice outside

Lost power here

looks like it's sleeting here

How are the streets in Johnson county ks? I am suppose to go to a Xmas party tonight...

But if all your driving is on the interstate, it shouldn't be too bad, but it depends on where you live. If you're from say, Salina area, it shouldn't be too bad, until you reach Topeka onward to KC area. I'm near the KCI airport, and it's not sleeting too bad here, just a little layer of ice, but nothing to be freaking out. But in the Jackson/Wyandotte/Johnson counties, they're getting some ice more than Platte County. |
Edit:
Just now saw the radar, it is freezing rain/mix from Manhattan to KC. And it is starting to be on and off sleeting here in the KCI area. |

TWC is saying 6" to 10" now for the KC area. Radar shows snow all the way back to Dodge City and moving northeast.
|
I least you can drive on snow. Too cold for ice.
|
Nothing but ice this way. Ugh, powers going out in places and it's not even dark yet.
The great news is that I have to work 16 hours tomorrow and the person who was watching my son lost their power so they had to skip town. FML |

Pittsburg is a great town, by the way. Frontenac is really nice too. I heard the Paluka's store was up for sale - do you know if it ever sold? |

So do they go easier on the no backpack policy when it's cold and nasty?

How's it looking in North KC? My Wife's Sister and our Niece are going to try to fly out of MCI to San Diego in the morning.

We have a small sheet of ice and snow on the roads here. Good thing I work 9-7 tonight. Last night our shift worked five accidents. A lot more than normal for our shift. The accident I worked the idiot blew a .21, slid off the road.
|
Apparently there was a fatality in the Northland on US-152 and N. Indiana. Guy slid off the road in a pickup and was killed when he was thrown from the vehicle.
|
Sheets of freezing rain coming down in North KC. Looks like it will switch over to all snow in an hour or so.

Maybe I will drive there and take a look. errr, no |

A heavy band is coming in from Franklin Co. Looks like the worst of it will move through Johnson Co. and then Jackson Co.

Just stay off the roads. No job or money is worth your life. Stay safe.
|
Snow you can deal with. Ice is an entirely different thing. No vehicle is safe on ice. Period.
|
it looks like i'll be staying in this weekend
|
Heavy sleet here 5 minutes from the stadiums.
|
Just took my Subaru for a quick spin. The roads are iced over pretty good out here. I saw people sliding and spinning their tires all over the place. I just went to Panda Express and came straight home. Hopefully it switches over to all snow soon.

to tell the truth I miss this weather. I love driving around in the middle of the night when it is pouring snow, no one out but the plows. Running the snowblower and watching the dog go nuts.
|
Made it into midtown fine. The only problems are hills with no salt (major roads seem fine,) and people who don't slow down early enough before a stop. Took about two hours longer than usual to drive from Wichita to KC. Had to stop once to smash the ice off my headlights, but that was kind of fun! Safe travels everyone heading out.
|
There are a couple of hills in my sub division...some cars struggling to get up them.
|
The drive down Wardparkway to the Plaza was miserable saw 1 wreck on the way
|
first year with Snow and the Xterra.
bad ass is all i have to say. Zero problems while other people couldn't even get moving from a dead stop through an intersection. I wasn't a moron driving fast because of 4x4, but it was amazing. |

Still snowing hard here in North KC. I don't know how much we've gotten thus far. Enough...
|
I'd say at least 5 inches, (that's what he said?) so far anyway. Looks like it may taper off in the next couple hours.
|
|
My parent's water meter froze some time in the night.
I could choke the town's meter man for not getting the lid shut tight and making me get out of bed way too ****ing early to drop a heat lamp down the hole. Think I'll leave a note on the lid that says "Just ****ing guess". |

Snow rules.

So...... Ice Tsunamis. Those are a thing now...

I stayed in a native cabin North East of Lake Winnipeg that had holes drilled into the yard/rock in a triangle with a point nearest the lake. They had a storage shed with What looked like 3' walls made out of old Aluminum concrete forms with legs. When it starts you pull the little man hole covers off the holes and drop the posts on the walls into the holes. I've only been there in the summer, but they had pictures of it funneling the flow around both sides of the cabin. |

The weather is the best thing to happen to the Superbowl and the NFL ratings.
They are loving it. |
Really icy here in Houston. Mostly because they didn't pre-salt the roads to prevent ice from forming over night. If this happened where I used to live (NoVA) they wouldn't of canceled anything because this sort of weather is normal.
|
Tuesday (2/4) isn't looking good. Projected to get between 6-10" of snow in the KC area. Will be submitting a day off request for Tuesday, as I'd rather want to stay home all day, than have to go drive anywhere in this storm.
|
I was scraping ice off my car Saturday morning and my ice scraper broke. Perils of moving from Texas, lol.
|
Well get ready, cause theres a huge storm coming all day Tuesday and another Friday
|
I think I got two inches total this weekend from the big snow storm. Guess last wave is tomorrow.
