I like Finnegan, but his sample size is very small. He was roughed up a bit in his last appearance in the ALCS ... and this is the World Series.

Ned played it fabulously if you ask me.

This was straight-up a wrong decision, period. Batting Herrera while we were clinging to a 1-run lead was ridiculous.

and I straight up 100% disagree with you

it is what it is

Prison Bitch 10-25-2014 01:39 PM

If there was 1 out, it might be more defensible. At least if he Ks the inning is still alive. It's also defensible if Herrera looked like he had EVER swung a bat in his life. Seeing him actually go up there proves to me he had almost 0% chance of getting a hit.

Herrera is a good pitcher. But he's not Davis or Holland. Burning him for a PH isn't like you screw the pooch or that you don't have other options.

alnorth 10-25-2014 01:40 PM

Our lineup is the same as last night

Hootie 10-25-2014 01:40 PM

I don't feel like arguing it. I have no problem calling out Ned when I think he ****s up. This, IMO, was just fine. With H D H and a 3 - 2 lead ... I certainly wanted H #1 to get the 7th inning

alnorth 10-25-2014 01:43 PM

Fun fact: if you pinch-hit in the middle of the at-bat while there are 0 or 1 strikes and he strikes out, the K is credited to the pinch hitter. If there were 2 strikes, the strikeout is credited to the guy he pinch-hit for.

TribalElder 10-25-2014 01:45 PM

I was in the majority

Prison Bitch 10-25-2014 01:47 PM

I'm not certain why Finnegan couldn't have pitched to Pence. RH hitters are only 3-18 against him so far with no power. Small sample size but still.

Pitt Gorilla 10-25-2014 01:49 PM

Do work, al.

Hootie 10-25-2014 01:50 PM

I want Herrera/Davis/Holland in the 7th - 9th in games we're leading. Period. I thought Ned should've brought in Davis when he brought in Finnegan.

too many pitches bro. A tired arm is a dead arm and becomes batting practice or walks or both. Just ask Shields.

He threw almost 60 pitches in 3 days. There's a pretty good reason to believe he might not be effective if he goes again tonight. I don't know why you are so down on Finnegan, especially after how he pitched earlier this postseason. He saved our ass in the wild card game.

Chiefshrink 10-25-2014 02:01 PM

Davis can easily go 2-3 innings imo especially if he has 8-10 pitch innings.

Hootie 10-25-2014 02:01 PM

I like Finnegan. I really do.

But it's the World Series.

If you want to make Herrera unavailable, Davis should pitch 2.

and then if he's unavailable Sunday, Holland should pitch 2.

He will be. It's the world series. All hands on deck for the last 4 games of the season. Especially if there is a chance to go for the jugular.

Mentioned it before, but he was 2-4 MPH lower on most of his pitches last night.

Finnegan is the key cog in this pitching rotation and is an 'old soul kid' who believes he was born not only to pitch in the show but win in the WS. He is a 21 y.o. kid with a 35 y.o. demeanor and is having fun and not afraid to have fun either.

He'd better serve us tomorrow with some rest. If he pitches tonight, he's definitely out tomorrow, unless you think tomorrow will be a loss vs Bumgarner.

I'm hoping Vargas goes 7. If not, then Frasor/Finnegan needs to get us there, and Davis should be ready if whoever pitches in the 7th gets in trouble.

Ned has said that he believes that Herrera's arm is a lot better suited to pitching multiple innings than Davis, but that he'd go to Davis for more than 1 inning if he really had to.

I'm guessing if Vargas is out after 6, then someone else will start the 7th, and Ned will reluctantly get Davis up if he has to.

Chiefshrink 10-25-2014 02:07 PM

Does Frasor worry anybody ??

Chiefshrink 10-25-2014 02:08 PM

When will Duffy see any action you think ??

BWillie 10-25-2014 02:08 PM

alnorth 10-25-2014 02:09 PM

What we really need is a blowout. Score 7 or 8 and put it away early. We're never going to be more likely to do that this series than tonight against Vogelsong.

penbrook 10-25-2014 02:09 PM

It's the same lineup as yesterday

Given a clean inning? No. I might be nervous if he has to face the 3, 4, 5 and I don't think he'll pull off the Houdini escapes that Herrera's done coming in with lots of baserunners and 0 or 1 out.

Just because the Giants backs are against the wall. If they lose this game they're in big trouble. They aren't the kind of team that is likely to go quietly into the night. I'd sure like to see it, but I'm not expecting it.

Stats disagree

RHP Ryan Vogelsong (8-13, 4.00 ERA, 2.60 K/BB in 184 2/3 innings)

LHP Jason Vargas (11-10, 3.71 ERA, 3.12 K/BB in 187 innings)

That is a sample size of a whopping 6 games sprinkled over 3 years.

That makes the stat so useless that it should be disregarded entirely.

I like to think in probability distributions, so I think game 5 is is about 62% SF, game 6 is about 55% KC, and game 7 is a tossup.

So, given that, if we win tonight I'd say its 86% for KC.
