Back then it was always Chrissy Hynde for me,and when she sang that lyric..."I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for!"

I see no shame in this song. interesting that it showed up here as I have only about 20 pages left in her book Reckless. a pretty good read. been going back and listening to all the Pretenders stuff lately. they have a bunch of kick songs that never saw the radio waves. great band. love this one. cracks me up @ 2:50 ...... not me baby I'm too precious **** OFF! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zCZnwhwStPg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
The Pretenders are a band that I could never get into. I understand why they were popular but they never clicked with me. I don't like her singing style.
|
For some reason whenever I think of The Pretenders I always confuse them with The Motels.

oddly I was never a big fan of their hits....I always dug songs on their albums that never got radio play. another thing about them is they write many songs in odd timings. not your usual 3/4 4/4 stuff. |

yeah I dont like that one either. in the book I'm reading at one point she told the powers that be that brass in pocket would be on their album over her dead body. ROFL then she says...as it rose to the top of the charts I realized maybe I don't know what the **** I'm doing. chrissy's roots are punk. and it seems that most of their hits...you can't tell. but on the songs I dig you can. like the phone call or the wait. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0UaDlZr_Crs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Time to break out the big guns.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MrJSKvX0AcI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Particularly shameful, considering what a great band they were before the 80s hit. But can't deny Cetera had pipes. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WLiuMkGCOC4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Listening to these two songs back to back, you can relive the world taking off it's bell bottoms and earth shoes, and putting on its parachute pants and Cosby sweaters collectively. |

Great song, terrible video. |

I wouldn't put THe Corrs in 'shamesong' category, but I was recently surprised how awesome the chicks in it have held up. Havenit heard from them in forever, then they were on Graham Norton a couple weeks back.
|
I thought you were talking recent until I came into the thread to make this post.
I really liked this shame song when I thought it was a hot Joan Jett type chick singing it and not a Fn Porker. I saw the video and was like ewwwww noooooo! Nobody wants this disgusting sweat hog. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0uLI6BnVh6w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

The radio version known by many performed by Rascal Flatts is very lame, but the orig version by Jeffrey Steel, covered by Aaron Lewis...is a beautiful cover. Prob should be in the cover thread oh well.

Much better than the space aged techno garbage version on the radio. I enjoy his voice on this song. Only like a couple songs by Daughtry, this is one of them.

And since the era of The Who and Led Zeppelin is past, I can't imagine a male voice I'd rather possess for my own than Ruess' Love all of Antonof's work, but this song is a particular favorite, because CBS used it in the KU-UK 2012 NCAA championship pregame and nearly destroyed me. Still tear up thinking about it. |

Came home and googled it up to see who did it, and found an Antonof quote saying it reminded him of Queen... and I'd have to agree, the chorus has that kind of grand, operatic feel to it |

I only became familiar with the Eagles of Death Metal after terrorists attacked their Bataclan concert in Paris. I became infatuated with their sound (so, as is common for me, I'm late to the party by a decade or so).
I was driving somewhere with my daughter not long ago and she played this song that hit that same spot for me and it turns out that that's because it's a collaboration with EODM: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7c0BjfIilgM" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
